Samsung Galaxy Note: 5.3", 1200x800 SuperAMOLED, S-PEN stylus, 2500mAh attery... *phew*

For the first time since I've owned my Note, I got a message today saying software update available. I downloaded it (around 70mb) but it didn't install for some reason, it said try to update again via kies. Anyone else get this update and what it is?

It depends where you bought your Note from and what your current firmware is. My Note is from Germany and has had regular OTA updates, but for some reason the rest of Europe has been left way behind.

If this is your first update in a while then I definitely recommend it. It should have better performance, faster wake-up time and a number of other tweaks like updates to the S Memo app and Swype.

Anyone purchased an extra battery off ebay, if so are they as good as the stock one ?. Also I'm thinking if getting the case in the link below (£8.14 inc p&p), what do you guys think of it ?.

From what i've read some of the cheapo chinese battery imports can be pretty poor, with nowhere near the stated capacity. There are some brands that are OK but generally i would stick with a manufacturer one.

As for the case... how big are your pockets!?

It was a ~70mb update which a few others on xda were also notified off. It didn't install on mine I think because my phone is rooted, but tbh I don't think I am gonna bother with it because ICS is just around the corner...?

I've got so many apps installed and some of the games have annoying notifications offering me discounts, that I think I need a complete wipe of this phone. All my contacts and purchased apps are saved, I am just waiting for the official ICS update now.

I bought two extra batteries marketed 2500mah and 2600, though in reality they're probably around 2000mah each. For about 4 or 5 quid delovered from the bay each im not too fussed. the official samsung ones cost about 15-20 quid iirc.

That case looks pretty chunky. I'd recommend the szlf bumper case; not too bulky, looks very nice in gunmetal and protects the phone from drops - no faff or flappy cover and it's dropped onto concrete twice already and just left a scuff on the bumper case.

Question for you Note girls:

Now you've had your Note a while and are used to it, what do you make of the S-Pen?

Be honest, would you miss it if the Note 2 didn't have one? Have you come to use it often?

I don't use it much at all really, just a bit of drawing with my 2 year old, he likes drawing moustaches on people etc. I'm sure this wasn't the kind of use Samsung had in mind though. ;)

I dont use the pen at all so no I would not miss it on a note 2
as to the Note itself I have had it a few months now and I cannot see myself ever going back to the smaller size phones (EVER)

Just downloaded and installed an update, no idea when it became available but its changed the size of the login pattern to something smaller which now means its possible to do with one hand with ease :)

Went in to P4U on Saturday, orange Dolphin 35 contract had expired in Jan 11 (oops - I know I should have done this ages ago!)

Managed to get, on same contract (has the old true unlimited data pack which is the only reason why I still stay with orange TBH), 18 months, reduction of 10% so £31.50 pm and a free Note, with £40 cashback and £25 for an old Samsung Omnia (origional one).

1st - is this a good deal and 2nd, does anyone know of a good case, dock, extended battery and 16GB sd card deal?

THREE mates of mine all purchased the Note last week, from o2 with the £110 cashback offer through quidco. They would have never even considered getting it, had they not seen mine. I should be working for Samsung getting commission. :o

Just got my one about an hour via amazon.de, bloody awesome bit of kit btw. It came with a euro plug, would any uk pkug to usb adaptor suffice ?.
