Ive just purchased one of these to replace my dell streak and to be honest im a little disapointed as bought it due the hd screen for watching films on. And all im getting are bad black clipping which makes dark flims look like bad priate copies. I never had this with the streak if anything it made most things look better.

After a little research on the net it looks like a common problem..... What i want to know is it software related or hardware.?? Does anyone know....

How are you encoding the video files?

Im not in coding the files. I get it when watching bbc iplayer by app or browser net flix and and movies that i have bought via market.

I also get banding or blocking and clipping when viewing the market black background. Basically all dark colours look like blocks.

Although i dont get it on pictures in my gallery???

This is a problem with OLED/AMOLED full black is properly black unlike traditional screens where its actually a slight grey and blends in with the transition (might be a way to over-ride it in software to prevent full black pixels not sure) - basically any patch of black in a movie will be totally black and a big contrast from the nearest dark shade.

mkv has the same problem - its a screen technology issue afaik its not unique to the Note tho I see it on other AMOLED screens to.

EDIT: Mine shows that image above ok and even in movies it only applies to 0,0,0 but it does stand out as its pure black whereas say 1,1,1 is backlit very dark grey.

EDIT2: Not tried but changing screen mode to movie or turning on/off some of the auto screen calibration settings might make it better dunno.
