Samsung Galaxy Note: 5.3", 1200x800 SuperAMOLED, S-PEN stylus, 2500mAh attery... *phew*

The blocking dose not seem that bad after uninstalling flash player update.....

That update also seemes tp cause my dell streak to block the blacks. Maybe flash player dose not play well with 5 inch screens....

Good deal on dial a phone

Galaxy note free for 21.5pm for 24 months.
Logged in to my o2 and i was able to take of the bolt on which brought the contract down to 15.5pm so the buy out is now 372..... Just need to find out if i can haggle the vat for early cancellation??? Vodaphone have always knocked off the outstanding vat.

If the do the phonw will only cost around 297;-)

This is a problem with OLED/AMOLED full black is properly black unlike traditional screens where its actually a slight grey and blends in with the transition (might be a way to over-ride it in software to prevent full black pixels not sure) - basically any patch of black in a movie will be totally black and a big contrast from the nearest dark shade.

They only way i can see the screen being the issue is if the software player is expanding the video to full range from 16-235, in which case it would be black crush that people are seeing and that has nothing to do with the screen technology being used, though oleds ability to shut off completely would make the problem easier to spot.

In other words, you should never see oled shutting off completely when you're playing video for anything other than the black bars around it.

Thats what I see with mine - shuts off completely with 0,0,0 (in videos) which gives a bit of a blocking effect as the next nearest shade of grey is backlit and quite a big contrast compared to what it should be. Not seeing what some people are seeing tho where even pixels close to black are completely shut off (black crush style). Could be a video player problem.

it does sound it. A different media player would be a good idea, try bs player if you arent already using it - it can swap between software and hardware decoding so if it's an issue with hardware decoding that might show it up, and i would have thought that bs wouldnt do anything silly like force full range on video.

Anyone have an idea when the Note 2 or a similar sized Samsung will be coming along?

No - but I'd hazard a guess we'll see it a few months after the SGS3.

In the same way that the Note has the "guts" of the SGS2, with a larger screen and battery, I'd expect the Note 2 to be similar to the SGS3 with a 1280x800 sAMOLED+ display and ~2500mAh battery.

I got this deal too and removed the bolt-on - much cheaper than paying outright and is unlocked/unbranded too. Sadly, o2 won't take VAT off or give any discount for paying off early, or at least didn't on my last contract.

I think the success of the Note means we will definitely see a Note 2 at some point which will have the same internals as the S3 but with a larger battery and screen, most probably as Duff-Man said - a few months after the S3. There is room to make the Note just a tiny bit smaller but maintain the 5.3" screen and hardware home button, which I hope they keep.

I still think this is the best phone out there atm and for ~£330 it is a steal. Not seen the much hyped screen of the One X yet but lack of sd card and non removable battery puts this just ahead in my opinion especially with its superior camera and video recorder. I think the S3 will be superior to the One X in that it will not have its flaws, so i expect the Note 2 to be nothing short of spectacular!!! :D

I have been watching this thread with interest for a few days.
I particularly love the potentially massive 5.3" screen.
Especially as the Black 16GB can be bought for less than £400 new from Amazon.de :D

A few simple questions:
Is video an music play back comparable to iPhones?
- Reading here, been posts of it been poor!
- Any good games? Angry Birds, Osmos, Plants vs zombies.

Still must resist buying an wait for:
Galazy S3, Note 2, iPhone5. See which is the best, from the new Quad Core Generation.

got mine today in white what a phone. on a full charge i got 1 days and 3 hours out of it. which is better than my sg nexus and 9900

I found the battery improved massively after the first 3-4 charges (which isn't unusual) I can easily get 2 days of moderate useage out of it before it gets down to 15-20% battery.

All the normal games available from the google play store. GTA3 runs very nicely on it and is fairly playable (atleast the driving elements).

There are some minor issues with it tho I've not had any of the screen issues 1-2 people are having and even if I did its so awesome in every other regard it would still be worth it.

Do you have a link to the deal, I couldn't find it.

Where is the cheapest place to buy this lads? Sim free.

I currently have a BB 9790 and a Playbook, and I think I could just replace those with a note and have it all in 1 place.

The rainforest is the cheapist!
Especially the .de rainforest! ;) Just less than £380

Its killing me to wait, but waiting until Galaxy S3 Specs are announced.
