Samsung Galaxy Note: 5.3", 1200x800 SuperAMOLED, S-PEN stylus, 2500mAh attery... *phew*

I honestly wouldn't expect the update anytime soon. The Canadian release was for a different variant of the Note. When it does finally come out it will be a staggered release. I would be thinking weeks or even a month or two, rather than days.

No one has received ICS for the Note. Canadians have just started getting ICS for the SGSII, but it hasn't started rolling out for their Note yet. Though they did get a new leaked build yesterday.

Mine came from o2 but came unlocked I have a GiffGaff sim in will this have any effect on the upgrade, will I have to keep checking Samsung's site or will I get automatically informed by the phone, thanks!

I'm also using a giffgaff similar in my o2 contract note and I was automatically sent the notification a while back for a gingerbread update. No idea if it came any sooner than if I were to have been using the open sim though.

Been thinking about jumping ship from the IPhone4 to this.. or indeed the S3. Wanted something larger/tablet'ish' as I work offshore and would be great for loading with movies, music and sorting work emails out.. the whole iTunes thing can be so infuriating.

All that said, would I be wiser hanging on for the S3?

What's the best way to get root? I've read a couple of guides but they seem to be out of date.. Also I'm not sure about the flash count?

Newb so no advice from me, in my research I've gone to pg 136 of the above linked thread to try and get up to date info, in the past few days I've saved a good few links to be looked at closely before my 1st root attempt.

NZtechfreak has also got some info about Notes on xda.

Sure the sgs3 might be faster. But the screen on this makes it the winner for me. Its just incredible and makes iphone4 and sg2 look like childrens toys!

I'm at work so replying quickly having skim read the link above, so apologies for any oversights...

You need to be a little bit careful because not all firmware's are rootable using that method, you may need to downgrade first. See here for more information: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997

Another more straight forward method might be to simply flash a pre rooted stock firmware using PC Odin, i don't think that increases the counter though i'm not 100% sure. See here for more info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025

Note:
Larger screen
Larger battery
S-Pen
A lot cheaper (can be had for ~£21/month)

S3:
Quad core instead of Dual core

That's how i perceive the differences, if i were buying now I'd definitely go for the note again.

Thanks for the links Grrrrr.

I have successfully rooted in about 10 minutes after following this video:

It doesn't change your flash counter and this method leaves all your data untouched.

Ha! I've just finished downloading Odin and the appropriate non wipe files and came here to link you to that very video, YT and the phrase how to are a godsend to mankind :D

Yup thanks from me too Grrrrr, XDA has also been very useful.
