Samsung Galaxy Note: 5.3", 1200x800 SuperAMOLED, S-PEN stylus, 2500mAh attery... *phew*

:D Love the power of the net.. really easy to follow video as well! I'm guessing OTA updates will still work?

I now have Titanium Back Up backing up to my Dropbox :D

OTA updates will work but you will lose root. Better off finding either pre-rooted updated firmware on XDA or install stock firmware using Mobile Odin and there is an option to 'keep root'.

For you newly rooteds my number 1 first thing to do... change the DPI. You'll find you can see soooo much more on the screen. Some Samsung apps don't look very good at lower DPIs but most downloaded apps will look much better. Experiment first with this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=lv.n3o.lcddensity, anything you change is undone when you reboot.

If you like the change it's pretty easy to make permanent by other means.

EDIT: Forgot to mention 240dpi is the sweetspot in terms of looks and app compatibility.

Sorry, i'm spamming the thread a little today.

Over the weekend a friend of mine with a Note managed to remote desktop connect to his windows PC. Now that is very very cool.

Thanks for that :) I had totally forgotten about DPI changer!!

Strangely I cannot run DPI Changer, I get a 'Unable to read configuration file error' :(. Searching for info about the error isn't proving to be very fruitful.

Try this:

In ES File Explorer (or root explorer) go to

Root level > system > build.prop

And open that in a text editor. Scroll down till you find the text

ro.sf.lcd_density=320

Change the number to 240 (or whatever you like), save and reboot. Change back to 320 to undo.

Thanks for the help but I am unable to save the edits I make to that file with ES Note Editor. Seems like the file might be locked in some way?

Does anyone know a way out for me as I seem to be stuck on a ICS rom (Midnote 1.0) without being able to flash any other roms and seem to have also lost root for some weird reason.

Now every time I try to flash another rom (stock rom or any other ginger bread rom) the CWM never flashes anything. I have also tried (at least dozen times) PC odin method but that to fails .

Does anyone know of a way that I haven't tried yet.

Couple of thoughts:

- Losing root was a pretty common problem for the first few ICS ROMs, though i think it's largely been resolved now if you follow the correct steps. (not much help now though i know!)
- Can you flash AbyssNote kernal? If yes, this also installs Red Pill recovery which should allow you to restore an old GB backup. CMW can't do this.
- Read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633943
- When i managed to balls up an ICS ROM, PC Odin was my saviour. Not sure why it wouldn't be working for you though i'm afraid. Are you definitely using it correctly? (Holding in vol down, home and power to turn on the phone etc)

That's what i was thinking. Thing is I have done it on two other Galaxy Notes without any problems.

Unfortunately CMW is not flashing anything at all. Even deleting data is not happening. It just sits there for ages (gave up after 15 minutes) and does not execute the command.

Yeah I was reading this and this is worrying me as I think my phone may be affected.

Yes mate I am following all the instructions carefully. My phone does get recognized (in Download mode) but unfortunately PC Odin is failing every single time I have tried. So far I have unsuccessfully tried 10-12 times.

Do you know how he did this?

There are several remote desktop and VNC clients on the android market also theres a neat program called valence which can connect to a VNC server on a desktop PC and let you use the touchscreen like a trackpad and virtual keyboard which is really handy as a remote for a media PC or similiar if your watching a movie.

Impressive stuff Rroff.

Technology is not my field but it impresses me nonetheless to see how it can be utilised in the wider world.

Some of the Android apps are really impressive - the novelty of google skymap still hasn't worn off I'm quite impressive with the accuracy - it can tell you what celestial objects sun, planets, stars, etc. your phone is pointing at.
