Samsung Galaxy Note: 5.3", 1200x800 SuperAMOLED, S-PEN stylus, 2500mAh attery... *phew*

A stupid question here which I'd appreciate a bit of advice on....

I've owned my Galaxy S2 for about a year now and have been watching the galaxy note drop in price hugely in recent months and have been tempted to buy one but the thing stopping me is that when i used it in a phones4u shop, it felt really really sluggish. I wasn't sure if it had just got buggered up with being over used in the shop but it felt really juttery compared to my S2 despite the specs looking very similar ?

Anyone had both? I find the S2 pretty much perfectly smooth on ICS for everything i use it for yet even flicking through the menu's on this note seemed quite rubbish. Could anyone shed any light on this ?

If they're actually both the same/similar speed then i'll grab a note in the near future tbh. I'm convinced i'd get on great with the screen on these but any sort of slow down would drive me mad...i was one of the guys who really hated Tegra 2 tablets on 3.0

I had just popped in to ask the same after my previous question RE: whether or not it would be lagging a bit in 12 months.

I only got to play with it for ten minutes but side by side with the S3 (I really could not believe how much better it looks in real life than in pictures btw) and found it, especially the Stylus, to be pretty unresponsive? Wondering if it was just a display model issue. I was hoping the stylus would be just a really precise finger tip but that didn't seem to be the case? Feels like it's already lagging a bit never mind 12 months from now.

Also interesting how despite the screen sizes of the two being pretty close, the Note still feels noticeably larger, probably due to the aspect ratio. Felt far more like the sort of the device I'm after and obviously what they've intended it to be with the hybrid phone/tablet thing. It's a great bit of kit but sounds like the Note2 is going to nail it, so may just pick up a OneX to bridge the gap as I'm desperately bored with my DHD now!

Just ordered myself one of these, anything I should do straight away when I set it up?

Apps to have straight away to ensure its all working properly?
Would be a great help to know what I should get out the way first and get it sorted :)

Hi, an welcome too the club!

Firstly, connect it too your pc, an update the operating system to Ice Cream Sandwich, via a program called Kies! :D
- It will run buttery smooth with that update!

Configure the phone too your liking, an make sure screen brightness is down, as the AMOLED screen drinks the battery!

Then, start buying apps - 3 I always use!
MX Player (Movies)
Poweramp (Music)
Google Drive

Many other members will be able too recommend others for specific tasks!

Lagging? you sure?

On ICS it's pretty much as fast as my S2 on ICS. In absolute terms its very fast.

If you get Samsung hub and register with that and a Sammy apps account you get vouchers in the exclusive part of hub for £120 worth of movie and music rentals, till about a month ago they were for purchase.

Updated to ICS last night and suffering from poor battery performance like many others. Hopefully this will sort itself out, it does feel much smoother etc though compared to GB.

My battery performance has got a little better since I discharged it and recharged last night, however it still seems worse than before ICS, worth it though.

70% of my usage is screen so I've just took it down to 10% and got rid of some unnecessary widgets.

I've downloaded some stuff to root my phone off its sd card, I'll do it tomorrow though as the bats too low atm, I'll post links and reports afterwards if it's successful. It only works on ICS.

Has anyone else got the official car kit? They don't seem to have screened the in built amp for the line out so it gets a load of interference from the phone randomly - just want to know if its just mine or anyone else...

Downloading ICS now :D

I have the car kit but only played audio through BT which didn't have any interference. I don't use mine because the windscreen is too far out to reach the phone. If I get a chance I'll put it back in the car and check for you. My commute in to work is only 15 mins and I don't use the car for much else so may not have enough of a chance to test properly.

Can anyone on Vodafone (with a Vodafone ROM) please confirm they have received the ICS update?

Got nothing here OTA or via Kies :(

When I load up Kies it says my firmware (PDA:LC1/PHONE:LB2/CSC:LC1 (VOD)) is the latest firmware available.

Thanks.

Cool, thanks Rroff.

Didn't even realize it had a Vodafone ROM until I checked. Looks unlocked by any other means.

Guess there is not much for it but to just sit and wait.

wow, that was a bit of a mare - ics install hung at the end of the first run through and didn't reboot - waited for about 2hours then reset it and it continued untill it hung at the end of the second run through - nuts!

spoke to a useless person on the O2 online help and got nowhere over the course of about an hour. Got told to take it to my local store which couldn't do anything :(

Flashed it with the stock ICS update through ODIN, rooted it and restored everything with titanium - thank frack for hackers :D
