Samsung Galaxy Note: 5.3", 1200x800 SuperAMOLED, S-PEN stylus, 2500mAh attery... *phew*

Thanks a lot Mujja for the help. Now running generic ICS ROM :)

Must say, even with the limited time I have played with it, it is much smoother.

Updating with Check Fus and Odin was simple once I followed your instructions.

Hunter.P - I'll try and put some steps together for you later :)

EDIT - Taking a bit longer than i thought. I'll see if i have more time during the week. While i'm here, are you rooted? Which firmware do you have installed? Have you done any modding beforE?

i did this:
This method does not increase the binary counter or causes a yellow exclamation mark
Rooting
-Download the Files first and put in your SDCARD [CWM zip][ SU-Busybox-Installer.zip][ SU-Uninstaller-signed.zip]
-Reboot to recovery (turn off, hold vol up, home & power, let go of power when you get the first logo)
-Choose apply update from external storage.
(Touch the screen as if you are using the phone to choose the options)
-Choose CWM.zip and wait until CWM recovery appear.
-Choose install zip from sdcard or external SD
-Choose and Install SU-Busybox-Installer.zip
-Reboot

You are done and now your device is Rooted
and it was pretty simple :)

Cheers Siliconslave - that method worked for me on the 2nd attempt. Not overly impressed with ICS yet, I'll give it a couple of days to settle down though - RAM always seems to be very full!

Quick question - whats the binary counter?

Thank you for the very simple rooting method.

That was the most simple root I have ever done and it was on a Samsung who would have ever thought....

Has anyone tried tegrak overclock? Loads a kernel module to enable 1.GHz overclock on the stock ROM. I have tried it and can't notice the difference really. Plus my note only seems to be able of a 2780 quadrant score.

What's this I'm hearing about the ICS brick when you factory reset? Has it happened to anyone?

Yes it is possible, Samsung apparantly messed something up in the newer Kernels and this causes it to send some eronious commands to parts of the phone if you do a factory reset or full wipe in recovery.

If you want to flash anything the advice from XDA seems to be to flash a known safe Kernel before flashing anything that will do a full wipe.

Managed it myself last night and everything thing seems fine so far. Was on stock ICS and flashed a "safe" Kernel, the flashed stock GB rom and then ParanoidAndroid which is awesome in tablet mode btw.

what sort of limitations does Paranoid android have? will all apps run on it or is it just a subset & does it support docked line out (long shot I know!)

- None of the Samsung apps are installed on it
- Will run all regular apps without problem
- No FM Radio
- No MHL
- The S-Pen works but less well than on Samsung software, and a little mouse cursor pops up when the pen is near the screen. I find it totally fine for pointing e.g. when browsing but less good for writing/drawing.
- There is an option in the settings to "Use passive audio out on the dock". Can't test it though.
- Occasional hang on the unlock screen where you have to turn the screen on and off to get it going.

I've found it more than adequate for day to day use, the bugs are few and far between. I have no desire at all to go back to a TW based ROM!

EDIT\ One thing i should say is that the Camera is not as good as the TW one. It works fine, but it's not as well presented or with as many features. My only real gripe to be honest

Er yay, the case I bought off Eb sometime in late March has arrived, I won't see it till tomorrow as it was posted to gf's, an aluminium backed flip case.

The samsung apps only run on TouchWiz roms, so paranoid android (and any other cm9 based roms) can't run them. It should run everything else fine though.

BTW if your worried about losing the samsung apps theres a lot of cm9 compatible alternatives

Memo (I made this, it's still in alpha but is pretty stable on cm9)

Papyrus (I was having some UI problems with this, however it's still useable)

Lecture Notes (Not used it myself but heard good things about it)

Quill (Haven't used this either but heard good things about it)
