Samsung Galaxy Note: 5.3", 1200x800 SuperAMOLED, S-PEN stylus, 2500mAh attery... *phew*

a couple of questions, heavy use my desire hd being the battery whore it was would see me from unplug at 7am to around 1 or 2pm with lighter use around 6 or 7pm before needing to charge, how does the galaxy note fare against them kind of numbers?

The battery is excellent. Normal usage will comfortably last a day, often more. Further back in the thread you'll find examples of 2-3 days. It can run down pretty quickly with screen constantly on though, usually about ~4+ hours depending on brightness.

secondly, ill be looking to root and flash a clean version of ICS, i did this with gingerbread and ICS on my desire and also flashed new radios etc, should this be straight foreword on the Note and what if any functionality would you loose?

Yep, pretty straightforward but, and this is very important, all the CM9 variants require you to flash from gingerbread. There is the potential to brick the phone otherwise.

To root and install gingerbread in one go, just flash this in PC-Odin http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025. Yep it really is that easy! I normally go for LA4. If you're coming from ICS you'll have to factory reset after flashing.

My recommendation would be to install paranoid android (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662802 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1726282). It's essentially normal CM9 but with the ability to change the DPI of each app and whether it displays in tablet mode or phone mode. I think i posted some screenshots a while back.

Thanks ethos for the update.... At the moment I don't find the device slow enough to warrant a custom rom but we'll see how I get on by the end of July

BTW roms @ xda or modaco ?

I got my ROM from here (if that question was referring to CM9!).

if i was to flash this and then update to the Stable (when its out) would i have to do a reflash again and start from scratch?

Nope:

Upgrading from earlier version of CyanogenMod 9:
- Copy CM9 ZIP to your internal SDCard
- Boot into Recovery
- Flash CM9 zip
- Wipe cache partition and dalvik-cache
- Reboot

thanks mate!

my note already had root and ICS on it, i followed this guide: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_Note:_Full_Update_Guide

put CWM on it and it now has CM9 RC on it and very happy with it so far

does CM9 support the one handed keyboard feature for the note?

What is a 'good' price to sell my Galaxy Note for sim free? It's boxed as new, headphones still sealed, screen protector on since day one so the screen is perfect. It's unlocked on all networks and running the latest ICS. I really REALLY do not want to sell on ebay. Where are the best places to sell phones?

So I went ahead and ordered, feeling happy as it is the only phone I've really fancied buying since I've had my DHD.ill get it tomorrow, test for an hour or two for any faults or issues and then go through the motions for root and ICS.

Any one suggest a good Bumper case for oit and screen protector? Also wouldn't mind a desk charger as well if there is any recommendations.

For those getting bad battery drain make sure Wifi Sharing and Wifi Sharing Manager aren't running (seems to be a bug that causes them to start and drain battery at a stupid rate and they don't always seem to show as what is using the battery even tho its related to that) I've renamed FTM.apk and FTS.apk to stop them starting up (don't rename FTC.apk) - tho not sure if this is a problem with ICS as it is with GB.

Also found removing all the social hub/SNS **** if you don't use it results in less of a decrease in performance after a few days uptime - even just killing the tasks after a couple of days or so seems to make the device distinctly nippier without a reboot.

I've gone back to stock Gingerbread, it actually feels faster than ICS. I won't be returning to ICS until the random battery drain problems are addressed.

Feels good to not see the battery indicator being guzzled.

Could someone check out the tennis video player on BBC please. Does it display correctly? It's leaving about a quarter chopped off the bottom and squashing the video above for me

right, i have my galaxy note rooted and cwm installed with abyss kernal, my phone is LA6.

do i need a specific gingerbread image to move on to ICS and now the phone is rooted with CWM is it just business as usual in flashing roms aslong as Stock gingerbread->ICS is observed? nothing i need to worry about concerning the LA6 model now that its rooted etc?

Ok got it sorted, loving the note and its silky smooth, opted for paranoid android for its tablet hybrid settings and very very pleased.

friends are already disgusted at the shear size of it so that's a bonus:D

I have 3 friends, all with iPhone 4s, envious as hell now looking for the Galaxy Note either by Pay'n'Go or Contracts! :D

Every one of them gave me grief for having such a big phone, calling it a brick or tablet, but once they started surfing the net, played Angry Birds, or better still watched a HD movie on it, they were hocked!
