Samsung NC10

I've joined the NC10 club today. 1024 x 600 is pretty much perfect for web browsing I'm finding.

Is everyone who's using Win 7 running 2 gig of ram? I'm using XP with 1 gig at the moment but won't bother with 7 till I upgrade if it's essential.

I ran mine with win7 for a few days before i sold it with only 512mb and it ran fine once booted, i needed the 2gb in something else for a few days and was suprised how well it actually ran, obviously better with 2gb but was still quite impressed

Win 7 with 1gb ram here, works fine with just general stuff, but it does use all that 1gb up.
No real reason for me to go 2gb, it does what it needs to do and does it fast enough.
Would NEVER go back to xp, Win 7 just looks realy smart on the little screen. With a USB stick installation was super fast.

I might get one of these next month, if I got one with just the 1 gig of ram can I easily upgrade it in the future?

the ram is a doodle to upgrade to 2gb, i swapped out the hard drive in mine and stuck a 500gb in it was easy enough to do it just means you have to take the whole of the back cover of which is about 12 screws if memory serves ;)

Thanks I guess that applies for other netbooks too? I was planning to buy the NC10 from Best Buy but they have none at the moment, so unless they get more in when I'm over I'm gonna settle for the Toshiba NB205 which sounds fantastic.

steveo, hadnt thought about swapping out the drive.. how much did a 500gb one cost ya?

The one in mine is this one OCUK Linky i was tempted to put a 7200rpm drive in but it hits the battery hard so went for the 5400, i use it for backing up memory cards when am out with my camera on holiday :D

i did that too steveo. wish i had it last year since i almost lost all my picies in china. thank god for recovery software! backed up every day in sicily :o

drives don't come slower than 5400rpm do they? wonder what's the greenest you can get.

Anyone got any ideas which drivers I should be using for the video chipset under Windows 7? I'm using the default ones that 7 installs at the moment, but I'd like to get proper ones.

think windows updates them???? either way the default ones on 7 were fine for me

Well they seem ok so far, but I'd noticed they were dated back in June so I figured there might be something more recent?

Also could someone recommend a bang for buck ram upgrade?

One thing I have noticed running Win 7, it will not wake from sleep/hibernate (whatever closing the lid does). I have to force a reboot holding the power button down.
Possibly because of only 1gb of ram?

Hi,

Can anyone give me a quick how to on how I can factory reset my NC10. I do have the restoration disk and usb dvd, and I also setup the Recovery Solution III that has left 3 partitions on my Hard Disk. Wanting to take back to the shop for the upgraded version, but has to be unused!!

Thanks

Im not sure you can, i maybe wrong but I recall the first time I booted into mine it asked me how I wanted the drive partitioned either 50:50 etc etc, it never once asked me this again, Im sure someone else will know better as I don't actually have my nc10 anymore

Hi All. Since my laptop just died I am looking to buy a netbook. I keep reading great things about the NC10 and I am tempted but I almost dont like buying something that is nearly a year old and feel I should be buying a newer model. Is there a 'new' NC10 or a netbook that is supposed to beat the NC10? Any thoughts appreciated.
