Samsung NC10

I'm thinking of buying one of these later today..

Whats it like to watching movies on them?

What do you mean by that?
I can play 720p files fine with the right codecs. Looks great on the screen, I don't find my eyes straining or anything. Was great on my train journey the other day. I am properly pleased with this laptop.

^ What codecs? I installed k-lite codec mega pack and it seems to stutter every once in a while, and I'm pretty miffed it can't transcode converted mkv to mpeg files to the PS3 using TVersity without stuttering :o

The CCCP codec pack couple with windows media player classic seems to do the job for me. I can't say I've tried transcoding anything using this, I have a beefed up server for those intense jobs.

Well you're hardly going to get a higher res on a 10" screen at this stage. As for the icon size, I can't see a thing abnormal about them. They're hardly large.

I'm pretty sure you can make icons smaller in windows anyway if it bothers you. But be realistic it's a 10" screen you're not going to get the kind of desktop real estate that you might be used to.

Does anyone know anything about a possible version with the HPDSA internet thing? I'd love to buy one of these for work, but it means I'd need some method of accessing the internet wherever I am at that moment. I'm not really clued up on these dongle things for mobile phones. I prefer to keep the mobile as a phone, and have seperate internet!!

Should I wait for the HPSDA version, if there is one coming out? Or will I be able to upgrade this cuirrent on to have this new feature.

I've got the N95 8GB. So does this mean I can just synch the NC10 to the N95 via bluetooth, and it will pick up the phones internet connection automatically?

The reason I ask is the accounting software I use for my business is all web based. So if I've just finished a job at a customers house, I want to be able to fire up the NC10, access the online accounting software, prepare a receipt with all the work done, then print this off immediately and hand it over to the customer. Saves me having to go back and do them all again at the office, post out receipts and will ultimately simplify my accounts.

yep, the pcsuite software makes it really simple, once paired with BT just select the internet icon, first time you have to select your country and operator from drop down list but once done its a simple matter of clicking the internet button, works really well on orange, dont have to do anything with phone so it can stay in pocket bag etc, as good as having a sim in the lappy imo, but yes it would be nice to have the option but i for one wouldnt actually use it

Just got my New NC10! Got it for £293 in a store but they had it out of stock! we found another store next door which had it for the normal price so they had to match it!

Just wondering how long you have to charge it for when you first get it? i've plugged the battery in and the AC's connected up and its showing a green light.

It says in the manual you have to let it charge to 100% before you use it.

I am pretty sure that when the led goes green your battery is fully charged but to be 100% sure you can always press Fn and F2 assuming you have the laptop switched on.

Ok, im up and running..

Found somthing quite strange tho, Ive only created 1 hard drive C: because i didnt see any point at all having 2 different ones which were split up.

On my main and only C: drive i have...

Total Size: 143GB

Free Space: 137GB

I have the 160GB hard drive and i cant understand why i only have 137GB's left and its the first time i have turned this computer on! i know some place is taken up by the operating system, but not 14GB's worth!!!

Is there a hidden back up partition? I know some laptops have something like that set up. I don't have anything like that on my set up though as I formatted straight away and spilt the drive into two.

*edit*
You can check to see if you have a hidden back up by having a look in computer management and then the disk management tab.

Speaking of reinstallations.
If I wanted to reinstall on the NC10, obviously no CD/DVD drive changes things.
How would I go about doing this exactly?
And secondly I just shared my desktop CD/DVD drive with my NC10 but for some reason the only way to access it is if I were to enter my desktops login details on the NC10.
Is there noway to share it generically without having to ask for authorisation?
