Samsung NC10

Tried a search, but failed...

Has anyone bought a neoprene sleeve for their NC10? I've got one for my MacBook and like it, wondered if anyone could recommend one for this though. Want something a bit sturdier for when it's in a bag.

Look for a Swordfish Sleeve 10" Netbook Case. Got one for mine and its a neoprene. It hasnt got any other compartments for accessories though, just a case for 10" netbook.

Sorry, I meant £314, they had the black for about £307 but the blue is much nicer. I'm typing on it now and it's really nice to use, glad I bought it now. Just got to remeber to sell my MacBook now.

I only have 1GB RAM in it at the moment as the PC shop wanted £35 for the 2GB DIMM. I may get 2GB in the future but I doubt it will make any difference under XP.

2GB makes little difference I did the upgrade.

however I have a problem now since 2 nights ago. The netbook is completely ignoring my power options. I have the default options using the battery manager but no matter which option I select the netbook doesn't shut down automatically. Tested it last night with different options from 5 mins to 30 mins for hibernate and it does nothing. The screen switches off after the correct time but disk activity and hibernate is now not working. Seems to be since I inserted my SD card. I've removed it but for some reason it seems to have borked my battery manager.

I'm using XP BTW.

Hey guys, I have a choice for the laptop.

I have been scanning the local paper and I can get:

1. A refurbished Samsung NC10 with 2GB memory for £290

2. Or I can get a brand new Samsung NC10 with only 1GB memory for £290

Which should I choose, should I be bothered about it being refurbished? I phoned him up and he said its just what customers have brought back.

Will.

Go for the new one and then upgrade yourself. 2GB ram is less than £20 and worth it for the peace of mind of having a new machine.

Been using mine for nearly a day now and I'm loving it so far, everything runs fine. I thought office 2007 would completely overload the availiable screen space but the ribbon actually does a good job at fitting a lot into the small space, it gives you about 70% of the screen for the document which is good. Google Earth threw up a warning that my resolution wasn't optimal but it still fits everything in quite well. My only disappointment so far is Skype, what the hell did they do with version 4, the thing is a monster and looks horrible on a small screen, I might go back to 3.8 which is nice and compact. The guys behind Skype definatly made a bad choice with the UI in V4, it seems to be what happens with most programs, they become bulky as time goes on.

My dad bought one today which he is planning to take away to work with him in Nigeria soon, he's asked me to have a look at it and sort it out, is it best to wipe it all and re-install xp with all the random stuff that comes with it?

Anything else you reccomend?

Yeah, probably not really worth doing a reinstall, they don't ship with much crapware. I did however uninstall the Mcafee trial and Adobe Reader as they are memory hogs, go with foxit or sumatra for the PDF viewer. You will want to remove 'Windows Messenger' 'MSN Explorer' and 'Outlook Express' from the windows components as they are horribly out of date and all have newer alternatives. Make sure you run Windows Update several times as well to get the latest updates, even SP3 has lots of patches. IE6 should go as well, replace it with IE7 or even better Firefox/Opera/Chrome.

OK guys so I have done it, I plucked up the courage to purchase one of these little things. It should arrive Monday, it cost me £288 all together which i think is a reasonable price.

I am going to follow Rob's advice and uninstall Mcafee and Adobe as well as the Microsoft components.

I will go for Mozilla Firefox, is it worth doing the Firefox hacks to make it run faster?

Also what Anti Virus software should I go for?

I am going to install Macromedia Dreamweaver too its only for editing not for full coding and design so is it worth sticking with notepad or going for something open source?

What music player should I use, I realise I tunes can be very demanding so is there something else which would be better?

Also what instant messaging service is best to use for MSN which version?

Thanks guys.

RobH, good points there. My Dell Mini 9's SSD is runing out of space...I'll be ridding it of these unnecessary components.
Isn't Mcafee such a hog and nuisance? The machine feels so much faster with Avast running instead.
