Samsung NC10

Just updated bios and some thing has gone wrong the screen has gone mega glitchy so much so I can read anything its all a blur.

What the hell do I do now? Is there a way of re-setting it from the bios menu? if so what are the exact keys I need to press?. I have all my wedding/honeymoon photo's on this pc and I am ****ed if I can't get this fixed.

Can't help fix it but bear in mind that you can always take the hdd out, put it in an external caddy and access any data from another PC. At least you can save your pictures.

Taking out the HDD although possible is a pain in the ass. I have yet to update the BIOS in mine, does the update run via Windows?

It sounds like it still boots, have you tried connecting an external monitor and enabling it through the keyboard shortcuts? Always a chance that part is unaffected maybe.

I now have one of these, and its very very pretty. There's a whole set of bios options that I'm not sure about, if anyone cares to go into it, put scroll lock and num lock on with fn+f11, fn+f12, then turn caps lock off. Move left or right and a new tab called Intel will appear.

So far its let me change the available graphics memory and made the temperature control more aggressive. Anyone else think much of this feature?

@presto, 20 quid for a modified version of lenny? Hell no, Ill install my own thanks. I suspect presto to be debian standard install, with a different window manager, and a ripped down kernel. Better to do this yourself and keep the benefits of using debian, or to do something similar with ubuntu and get amazing support afterwards.

I'm probably going to be buying an NC20 next week.
Has anyone here managed to get Ubuntu working OK on the NC10/NC20?
Do I need an external CD drive to install Ubuntu or can I install it from a USB stick?

I've got Ubuntu on the nc10 now. Damn near everything works under Intrepid, apt-get install linux-backports-modules-intrepid gets wireless behaving itself. The link above is a good one.
Definitely no cd drive needed, the built in 'create a usb startup disk' worked well. Unetbootin works too.

Just reinstalled Windows 7 (now 7075) on my NC10, seems to work a little better than 7000 for the following reasons:

1) Live Messenger installs/works fine. I seemed to be the only person for whom WLM didn't install on W7/7000, however.
2) The Marvell-Yukon ethernet controller was picked up automatically in 7075, whereas a "bodge" using the Vista x86 driver was required in 7000.
3) Video performance seems a little better - I'm mainly going on Youtube here. It was a little stuttery in 7000, whereas it's nice and smooth in 7075.

Windows 7 is fantastic :D Looking forward to its release

Cheers for that, I've set the temp for the fan to be active a bit higher and boosted the gma 950's max allocated memory from 128 to 256, which has made it much quieter for lap/bed use and noticeably smoother in audiosurf, respectively. :)
