School Leavers to swear oath to Queen!

Personally I'm not terribly bothered whether this is implemented or not. I can't see that it would make a great deal of difference amongst todays youth. I do think people should be free to exercise the choice of believing in the concept of a monarchy or not.

So let me get this straight in my head "God save the Queen" is the anthem for the UK on a whole if this is true why do we have to sing it and the rest of the UK sings their own anthems?:confused:

Do you have no clue? It doesn't matter what nationality she is, she was handed the throne for a reason.

Why do people hate the royal family so much? They make us *loads* of money.

It's also a protestant hymn, which I can't see going down well with Catholics or other denominations.

Having gone to Catholic schools for 13 years, I couldn't imagine myself pledging allegiance to the head of the church of england. Queen and country are definately not the same, although if it was an allegiance to "the country" I can't see that it would happen in Scotland anyway.

I cannot see this being applied in Northern Ireland. It will cause a major uproar. I'm all for patriotism but saying you love that useless old bint Lizzie does not make you patriotic.

This may be true but should we be encouraging School Children to swear an oath to the Queen on the grounds she keeps our taxes down?

I would far rather they swore to hold up Democracy and British values.

No we shouldn't. The only reason I brought money in to it was due to Baz's post, saying that the Queen is an inbred who "sponges off this country".

I agree that it would be ridiculous to support it solely based on income the royal family generate through tourism.
