I agree that they bring money in through tourism and the like, but they still get money from us in one way or form. I for one would love to see them removed from this country, along with their anthem, and change the "national" anthem to something for this country, not for "them" :(


as you can tell, I am not a royalist :p I actually said "Good" when I heard the QM had died, as she was an evil manipulative woman.

They don't take any money from us, they generate far more money than they take to support.

I was forcing the point to be honest, but what I was getting at was that for those that don't have a problem with it, how do you actually justify this oath and what duty does this oath mean the individual has agreed to uphoald?

In the case of the Armed Forces, they swear an oath to Queen and Country in form of protection from outside forces, but for the individual what on earth would it mean?

They cost A, they make B.

B is far far greater than A.

Therefore if B is taken away it has to be made up in some way by other means, most likely resulting in an increase in A.

:edit: No I'm not a royalist, I just know how important the royal family is for this country.

not really, i'd be far more worried about taxes if the governmet started to make a concerted effort at clamping down on drinkning and smoking.

people visit those buildings because of the history, not because of the human signiature machine sat inside one of her many residences. i've been to a lot of historically royal buildings, never because i was thinking how much i love my monarch, but because of the history, and the history will never go away. there's been really nothing interesting about monarchy since the civil war, all they are now is a shell, that could be cast of and replaced if the queen refuses to sign a single govt. 'law'

We have over 30 million tourists visit our country per year, that's the 6th highest in the world.

You just have to look around in London to see the affect that our royal family has had on the industry. They're a huge part of our history, and although they're not such a big part of society today their mere presence serves to maintain the tradition that our country is built on.
