Schumacher to Mercedes GP?

Schumacher to win a race is 8/13 with Skybet
NOT to win a race with William Hill is 3/1. You could bet on both and guarantee yourself a return, but you'd have to invest a lot to get something decent back, but you couldn't lose! :D

Dude, I can't seem to work out how much I have to bet on each to come out with a guaranteed profit. My sums tell me that this is not a guaranteed profit.

Can you tell me the minimum amounts I have to bet to guarantee a profit?

Example:

£100 @ 8/13 = £161.53 return (Skybet)
£40 @ 3/1 = £160 return (William Hill - listed as "Race Wins - None")

£140 outlay, minimum £160 return, and you've got the only 2 eventualities covered, you can't lose. Basically, whatever you invest, you'll get a 14% return in 11 months time. Better than any bank account eh! :D

Edit - if anyone IS going to take advantage of that, I'd do it bloody quick before they realise ;)

OH right. I was thinking that the 3/1 bet for MS not to win is 3/1, on (ie. put £3 in and get £1 out, if he doesnt win a race).

Are you 100% sure these odds are correct, as I'm very tempted.

Also, what happens if he quits midway through the season (I think this is a real possibility) or has a crash and is unable to compete in all the races due to injury?

It's absolutely correct mate.

8/13 as decimal odds is 1.6153xxx, £100 gives you £161.53.
3/1 as decimal odds is 4 (includes the stake, before you ask!), £40 x 4 = £160.

I'll double check the rulings for you if you like. Feel free to e-mail or msn me, I just think this is a great opportunity for someone to invest a bit of dosh where they can't lose!

Edit - I *think* most bookies have the ruling as minimum 8 races completed otherwise bets are void, but I shall check.

Its a fantastic opportunity, providing the betting companies don't have some clause about MS quitting midway through. The last time a big name driver came out of retirement was Mansell and he didnt last long.

In a nutshell, if your odds are correct, you have to bet in units of £18.
£13 on MS to win a race
£5 on MS not to win a race.

For every £18 you invest, you are guaranteed to get a return of either £20 or £21.

Do you have to pay any taxes (or some other deduction) on winnings?

I'm just awaiting the one time LH overtakes him so he can be crowned the best driver that ever lived.

Trust me when he overtakes Hamilton the exact same stuff will appear. Lewis is over rated etc etc, If MS had carried on Lewis wouldn't have won anything etc etc.

3yr contract, this is great for F1 just hope he has a competitive car (but not s dominant one like the Ferrari was during his reign)

1 year I'd imagine with options on the other 2 I'd guess. I'm amazed If he has gone for a straight 3 years.

Massa is a good driver but can't see him beating a field this strong, unless Ferrari have a BrawnGP style advantage at the start of the season and Alonso has some big shunts...He's Rubens MkII for me which is a shame as he's a decent fella.

Ferrari, as always, have a decent chance of turning out the best car on the track. Massa is settled and very liked at Ferrari; Alonso is new there with a history of throwing a hissy fit if up against a peer capable of beating him. If Massa starts the season well, I think he's in with a chance of beating Alonso.

I'd still rate Alonso to beat Massa, of course, but not by that kind of margin.

who ever is next years champion becomes best f1 driver ever for beating the current best driver ever?

Not necessarily. MS is probably the most complete driver ever because he did what he did with different teams and over a long period of times, breaking virtually every F1 record in the process.

Even if Alonso or Hamilton win the title in 2010, it won't make them better than MS.

However, if MS wins the title next year, in a car which isnt that much faster than the Ferrari or McLaren, I think all F1 drivers will have to bow down to MS, because winning the title after a 3 year sabatical at the age of 41 is unheard of.

I know one thing MS hasnt done.......

won a title legitimately :D

(whether anyone else has in the past or not makes not a jot of difference)

IF he does that at Merc then even I will hold my hand up and give credit where its due, but until then....
