You can run BOINC as a service on W7, but I assume it interferes with GPU usage (works just fine with CPU). Thanks for the tip-off (I have a W7 license for the PC that's doing MW, but I haven't got around to installing it yet).

...hmm, I take it that's CPU only? I thought you couldn't run BOINC as a service with GPUs........ At least, if you can, that'd be a trick a fair few people would be intested in......

Yeah, on the boinc install it gives you the option to run as a service, but you cant do any gpu crunching if you do, you get a warning stating something to that effect if I remember rightly..

Ah, thought so.

Still, I'm quite impressed with W7, the install is quick and there do seem to be a ton of config' options, and it really does seem to be rock steady. About the only down-side is the price; I think MS are trying to recover the cost of developing Vista (which of course was really W7 alpha)!

Did you have any joy researching that mobo of yours Mr Edge?
I'v ebeen browsing since earlier and still no nearer on deciding what i want :(

It will definately take 3 cards, whether it can handle the power draw of 4 x fermi is another matter...

Im gonna stick the money for the 470 into my savings and hold off buying until the end of the month as the 470's keep dropping in price, and I don't want to miss out if they do....

Good luck with ocuk today toxic - hope it works out for you

That drop in price your looking for Mr Edge, the asus 470 is on offer today £220 with a copy of Mafia 2 which you could flog on for a tenner or more...good time to buy :)

BTW I have a triple boot system with w7/XP64/Vista on it and have my boinc files in x:\boinc\apps x:\boinc\data and all three systems can run boinc out of those folders without errors when I switch between them.

Same for Folding :)

Nice set up Mr Biffa i stand in awe of your awesomeness :)

As your the font of all knowledge i posted a problem in the rampage 3 thread.
Sorted out the initial problem by reseating the heat pipe assembly, but with 4 x 480 in it restarts after 30 mins-1 hr, everyone is telling me my powersupply is not upto it Thermaltake 1500w toughpower, i thought it would have been plenty .....do you think they are right if so i am snookered and will have to go 470 and hope that cures it?
Thank you sah! :)

WeeFolder should be in operation by the weekend or monday :D

Toxic, why don't you swap the 480's into your other setup, doesn't that have the same PSU? At least that way, you'd get an idea if it were really the PSU or not....

Aye good thinking but the second r3 board has developed a fault 2 so thats out of action till i figure it out, think it'll be the cavity wall foam thermal paste problem again, and the other machine has a 3 slot board so cant compare it. Fear not i will be all up and running by next weekend just in time to see the team rac hit a million.

I'd say not enough power.

Furmark tests at stock will pull just under 1500W

Thats why I went with 470's, you probably need one of these: http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?C=1265&ID=1544

Nice bit of shopping there Mr Biffa, a thermaltake too you know what i like lol.
Been to town today and cannot find a kill-a-watt meter but will give B&Q a try at the weekend. I wouldnt mind ordering that thermaltake but by the time i pay shipping and what not i might just say to heck with it and ditch the 480's in favour of 470's and clock the nuts off em.
Shouldn't imagine having a power problem with 4 x 470 if i do there'll be the biggest hissy fit in TBag history :eek:

Well with Mr Halz,Loudbob,Marine,Biffa,Tbag and potentially Mr Area51 about to upgrade i would say the autumn upgrade program is officially up and running
OOps and one more too who cannot be named untill the weekend :)
