SETI@home News Vol. 113 (22/08/2010)

Ah yes....

I have secured transport for either Friday or Saturday (can't do Sunday - working - Nuclear Submarines don't build themselves y'know).

So, which ever is convenient?

Either is fine Mr Loudbob sah when i comes to transactionsTBag Towers is a 24-7 thing really anytime day or night is good.

Not yet they don't ;) :D

Dont be silly Mr Marine he's not talking real nuclear submarines he's on about the big cardboard ones, like the ones they use in old james bond movies:eek::D:D:D

Great, will try and make it Friday (will let you know for sure).

T'is true - just google 'HMS Astute'

Something's in the air!

Been having random unexplained shutdowns since last night. Still haven't found the cause for sure, but I'm now down to 1 GPU :( At least that 1 seems OK (famous last words)!

So, my upgrade may turn into a replacement. Might be able to get the wc onto my 1 remaining GPU next week. Once I've done that, I'll refit the 'suspect' card, and see if its still a goer since my problem may be Motherboard heat related.

Mr Marine - I might be any easy stomp for you. Can't afford the replacement for a little while yet, so my RAC will fall back to 18-20k

Hopefully you can fix the gpu or it may right itself, either way hope its gets sorted and fingers crossed you have warranty on it :)

Hows the car coming on Mr M?

I shall swap out the card that is still going strong tomorrow and see if the other one runs OK on its own. Then, once I get me green GPU juice in, I should know for certain. I'd like to think I can give you a hard time! Still got over 1/2 million in hand, so I've got some breathing space :D

I think it is heat related, since the PSU is only pulling 430watts (rated at 850, 770 on the 12v rail), and this set up has been running for weeks without a hitch. All the temps I can monitor are very low, but I think the DRMOS is overheating, simply because the GPUs with the Accelero Extreme coolers block the airflow. The temperatures don't peak at shutdown, and the log just talks about an 'unexpected shutdown' - damn useful that!!!! ;)

Shifting approaching 50% of the excess heat out of the case should help a lot. Time will tell!

WARRANTY? That went West when I changed the fans. And then, just to make sure, BFG went bust! No warranty I'm afraid

Well, time waits for no man. Just swapped the 'dodgy' GPU back in, re-did the overclock and its all fine and dandy - so far. So, it looks like it was either heat, or the slot the 'dodgy' card was in. Al least I know I've got 2 good GPUs, and at least 1 good slot! Makes me feel a lot better!

So, can I get me green juice organised and installed before Marine starts breathing down my neck? Will the 'dodgy' card turn out to be runner? Have I got enough good slots? Which slots are good? Will my wc turn into a green stain on my bedroom ceiling? Tune in next time for another exciting episode of:

'Guess why my RAC's gone through the floor'!

;)

OK got a few more non-shiny bits turned up today hopefully my turbo will now work properly after they are fitted and it will be ready to unleash on the road with its awesome oldness :D

Nice one, you have got to take some dude like pics when you take it out on the road niiiiiiiice :)

Am allmost sure you will be sorted by then - you can thank his dedication to his car for him not to be hunting you down in the rac table lol :D
"a green stain on my bedroom ceiling" well if it does i would imagine there will be a corresponding brown stain on the bedroom floor....but lets just hope it does not come to that :o:)

Indeed my big car and my 1/5th scale buggy both need a few bob spending on them (buggy needs new engine :() otherwise I would have another 470 in here and bin the 260 :D

1/5th scale buggy!!! Is it in show us your motor thread?
Wanna see wanna see :D

**quick question** minimum psu requirements to run a q6600/crapish board and 2 x 470? Found a calculator online but it dont work :(

I used an 850w for mine (as all were oc'd) - but moved upto a 1000w as I will be adding a third (changed to 460's)

I'll be round your way tomorrow - will be bringing the Stacker :)

Should be setting off around 2.00pm - expect arrival around 4.30pm depending on traffic :D

Nice one sah, though if your right turn and a66'ing at brough bet it takes just over 3, no matter your welcome.
Hells bells i better get the place sorted, boxes and stuff all over :(
(must remember to hide new toy so as not to provoke Mr Loudbob into a rant lol)
