Sexual remarks at work

I can see this being an interesting thread.

I know someone that was fired for sexual harassment because he told a girl her hair looked nice over internal comms. Then they checked and found more comments of similar things and basically pushed him out.

it's a very petty world we live in.

I like how this is made out to sound like someone got fired for telling a girl their hair looked nice or paying people complements.

This is not what happened.

I want to understand.

Banter. About pubic hair colour, with an older woman.

No-one is offended.

Oh woe is me, I'm offended by everything and everybody, let me complain, I must complain, NEED TO COMPLAIN about something or someone as it wasn't my fault and I'm offended about everything and all things. Back in my day this was called a bit of banter and you took it with a pinch of salt. Folk these days just can't seem to have a laugh without being offended or wanting to sue someone for some sort of mental anguish

This.

This thread reminded me of my Dads stories about the Albright and Wilson plant in the 50's

(All female shop floor)

Any Man under 25 foolish enough to venture into the "Lionesses den" unaccompanied would be lucky to escape the shop floor still wearing his trousers! "De-bagging" was routine!

FF 60 or so years "S/He looked at me a funny way"

Pathetic :(

This. There was an all-female wiring area at Marconi Instruments in the early 1990s and the comments you'd hear there made ex-sailors blush. All teasing and banter was done in good spirits, but it was an eye-opener as there was absolutely nothing the women working there wouldn't discuss openly.

I work in a team of 23 at work, 20 women and 3 blokes all aged 25-40. If I were to report every innuendo during my working day I would have no time to do any actual work. Yesterdays on-going topic of conversation was spent discussing favourite positions (some of which had to be acted out for clarity) and safe words after most of them went to see 50 shades.

Its banter... get over it.

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest but I would complain just to keep the balance, females need to feel the PC sting just as much as males. Get a complaint in, on principle. :p

When you're training people it's good to keep the mood light by making a few jokes, you just need to know your audience. As I train in a very male dominated industry (construction) I normally don't have to worry too much about making a few rude jokes. On the few occasions I have trained women I have just curbed the rude jokes till I get the measure of their humor. My female colleagues on the other hand are ruder then me.

Indeed it isn't about sexual inequality but the audience. Don't make such remarks to ransoms until you get to know them better.

Of course men can make sexual jokes to women, he just has to make sure they find it funny and not offensive first.

I think I should state, I'm not offended. As a few of you are getting a little worked up bless ya lol.

I'm simply stating it was awkward and if I had returned the banter in similar fashion. I'd not have received a welcome response I don't think.

I'm curious about complaining because I don't know if it's the right thing or not.

Obviously not going by this lot.

Haven't you answered you're own question? You just said you weren't offended.... So why the hell would you complain and potentially mess up someone's career if what they did, didn't offend you? Whilst I think you're silly for even contemplating it, I do agree with your point about if the genders were reversed, but that is a massive shame on our society and just because the shoes on the other foot now, doesn't mean you should continue with the boohoo PC brigade.

As others have said. It's a bit of fun banter.

You do realise that the OP wasn't offended?

Then the question of making formal complaints about the woman shouldn't even enter anyone's consciousness.

Awkwardness in the workplace happens, just get on with your day.

Sad to think the OP even reached the point of posting about it, my first thought was a troll post, didn't think it could be genuinely serious.
