Show us your kitty cats

There are usually people around who want kitties. Especially if you offer them for free, I am sure they will soon disappear off to a nice home.

They will not be going to some random person who wants them for free (already had one scumbag on FB message me offering them a good home - checked her profile and she has loads of listings selling kittens )

I don't want any money for them, but they'll either be going to someone I know personally, or via a rescue.

Royal Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals living up to their name as usual

Trying to get the little fuzzballs booked into the vet to get checked over - vet says I need to register them as ours or give a log number from the RSPCA, RSPCA telling me if they've been abandoned then they will need to be collected by them. I've heard too many horror stories of healthy animals being put down by them, so told them I wasn't really happy with that; their response was they can't help.

We got our cat for free. A young couple had 2 cats, a mother and daughter, that they could no longer have. We took them both for my grandmother to keep her company. After a few weeks it was obvious the change of setting was bad for the cats as they no longer got on. Rather than unsettling the mother again we took her home and left the daughter with my grandmother.

Offered to give them some money but they refused to take it.

Well, yes, it is difficult. My local Pets Protection is pretty good. They check out the home.

I have never bought a bred cat. My feelings on that are that there are tons of kitties that need help, so why would I pay someone who is just making the situation worse? (Breeding cats when there are so many that need homes.).

Having said that, I have given donations to Pet's Protection after receiving a kitty, or giving the previous owner some sort of compensation for the bed and toys.

It's not a given that cats will get on (like the youtube videos suggest). My young one, Jeremy, has started having very real, very vicious fights with his brother. I don't think his brother will be coming round here for much longer.:(

Probably having to enforce a policy to stop randoms blagging free vet care for their pets. They'd want control over the kitties so care isn't an open-ended hand in their coffers.

Yeah, makes sense I guess, just has done nothing to change my impression of them based on all my experiences over the years.

Doesn't help that the woman I spoke to on the phone sound like a right moody stuck up cow!

I agree with your opinion of them from my few interactions too. Seemed to be full of self-important people rather than those who actually care about the animals. It will be the price of being the big famous one: a magnet for Karens who end up dealing with the public (because they're too important to clean up poo) and the real carers are lost under the weight of a bureaucracy. I'll give a shout out to the North Clwyd Animal Rescue our Lucy came from. Everyone we met was centered on the cats & dogs.

You are slacking btw. Where are the kitty pics ?????

Oh yes, absolutely, I should have clarified I meant just the national/head office phone lines - when I've dealt with the frontline staff at actual centres they have always been exemplary and like you say, very much focused on the welfare of the animals, it's just a shame there's such a discrepancy between the two (the national organisation seems to just be a front for a moneymaking scheme preying on people's guilt.)

I'm not posting any pics yet, on the slim chance that someone links this post to any of my lost and found adverts (they're not getting released to anyone claiming to be the owner without some kind of proof/accurate description).

Not holding out much hope though given how they were found, and more details and pics will come in a few days assuming nobody comes forward:)

As promised, an update and some pictures - we've had nobody come forward, and have made the decision today they are almost certainly abandoned, as I haven't found any signs of anyone looking for them.

They were found in the road next to a big commercial dumpster/bin - someone dumped a mattress in it which was propping it open, and while we might be jumping to the wrong conclusion here, suspect they may have been dumped inside, and it was just luck that the mattress was put in as well.

Complete guess based on guides online, but we think they are around 10-12 weeks old, both boys. They have clearly been loved and cared for at some point, as they are extremely well behaved (as far as kittens can be!) and very sociable and affectionate - they love their cuddles. I can't fathom why anyone would dump such beautiful chaps as they have lovely little personalities already.

We are still trying to figure out what to do with them, the vet said letting the RSPCA take them is probably the sensible option, but honestly, I don’t know if I trust them, and regardless, it wouldn’t be fair on them being stuck in a shelter for months – I’m going to enquire about us fostering them until a home is found, but I think policy and bureaucracy is going to get in the way of that idea.

Still waiting for Cats Protection to get back to us, but again, not holding out much hope. We don't qualify for any of the financial help with cheap neutering, and they're likely to just refer us to the RSPCA as well, so getting them snipped & chipped is most likely going to come out of our pocket - not ideal, but still better than the alternative!

We'd love to keep them, but with a dog, 3 cats of our own (and 2 children), the house is already turning into a zoo, and I'm not sure we could handle 2 more long term "residents", plus our greyhound seems to be getting a bit stressed out; when they're chilling it's OK, but when they want to play, they nip at her paws and tail, and she's really patient with them, but has started just hiding in her cage looking depressed :(

Could you contact Blue Cross? I think they will help with rehoming as we got our cat from them and the previous owners kept him up until we picked him up. They do also have fosterers if you cant keep them until they are ready to be adopted. My friend was one but it failed as she got too attached to the cat and ended up keeping him.

They're utterly adorable Cats Protection is the best bet but as they're not in any danger I guess they're not a priority case hopefully they'll get back to you soon they're sure to get snapped up in an instant

This is one of the reasons we charged a bit of money for ours. That, and all the vaccinations and stuff are expensive.
