Sigma 35mm f1.4....?!!

I have reasonable headphones, have a sound card, and want an amp. Although I do have a E5 somewhere for the iPod when I actually use it...

Definitely noticing a trend.

Tell her this new lens will make her look 10 years younger :p

Be interested in hearing what you make of it once you've given it a good run.

Will do.

I'll have a few days to get the hang of it before I head off to China/Japan. It'll come in useful when seeing the Terracotta Army, which I believe is indoors. I also have the feeling it won't leave the camera when in Japan and my beloved 24-105 will just get carried around a lot!

Papercraft :)

I've been into good sound long before I was into cameras :p

I love that cat!!!!

Same for me. Just had my Adam SUB 7 arrive at work, ready to pair with my A3X monitors. Shall be retiring my modded Emu0404 pci in the next few months and grabbing a balanced AudioGD Dac with dual outputs, so I don't have to keep switching the EMU RCAs between the speakers and headphone amp.

Then I'll get some monitor mounted LED strip to complete the pc station.... Finally!

I never bothered with a headphone amp purely because Nad amps have very good headphone amps built in. The Xonar STX also has a dedicated headphones out but I just use analogue out to the amp and use that for everything :) I won't ever go multichannel for the PC setup, really no need to if you've got a quality stereo setup.

Ad, look forward to seeing the pictures!

Only stereo for my bedroom too but multi channel for TV.

I have an headphone amp that matches the MF, partly because the MF doesn't come with a headphone socket built in.

The Terracotta army is indoors, more like underground I think, as they were buried with the Emperor to the underworld. So you would technically be in a tomb. I don't think they were moved from where they stood. The space is mechanically ventilated to keep circulation around and I won't expect the light level to be great so 1.4 would be a bonus. If they take the same line as most museums I doubt they would let you use a flash either.

EDIT - I see some online that the roof is like a massive warehouse with some natural light, so it should be okay.

Both my amp and my headphones were more than my 650d :| They'll probably hold their value better too hehe

No Terracotta warriors in Canada where I'm going this summer but I'm definitely looking forward to getting abroad somewhere with my gear for the first time.

I'm thinking about buying this lens for family outdoor portraits, holiday shots and general walkabout photography.
Thoughts about this on an APS-C camera - wide enough?

Will it be on a 1.6 or 1.5 crop? Personally I'd look at the Sigma 30mm f1.4 if I was shooting APS-C only. Still a nice lens (update coming soon) and much cheaper.

Canon 1.6 so an effective view of of 56mm. I'm in no rush to buy so will see what is released over the next months.

My requirement is the best quality available for stunning photos of my family. I already have a 135L F2 and have just ordered a Sigma 8-16mm (indoors architecture etc)

Any reason you're not looking at full frame?

On Nikon I would go for the Nikon 35mm 1.8G, the sigma 30mm is no match optically at all, very soft in comparison and not very nice bokeh.

Edit, just seen SDK is on Canon.

Cost.
I'm past spending more money on light boxes, for now anyway.

a second hand 5D mkii would cost very little more than the Sigma 35mm f1.4 and would arguably offer you better improvements for family photography?

35mm would be too long for me as a walk about on a crop body. I had a 28mm which was ok but still a bit long compared to 35mm on full frame (even if mine is a cheapo f2)

Corners aren't great that's for sure, but I'd take the Sigma over the Nikon for Bokeh any day of the week. The outlining on the Nikon is nasty.
