Sigma 35mm f1.4....?!!

Additional purchase it aeems, only works with newer lenses by the looks of it as they contain the new boards that support it. What's up with your 85? I found mine to need no micro adjust on the 5D3.

I think it might be very slightly back focusing on my 5Dc. It's not much, but it's enough to throw the eyes out of focus in 3/4 length portraits at f/1.4. It may just be movement as some are sharp and if I make a very conscious effort to focus on the eyebrows rather than hair or something, then I seem to be able to cut it out of my shooting. It might be nice to have it front focus ever so slightly so I can focus on the hairline (easier and quicker than an eye), come to think of it.

Thanks for the help. Do we know how much the dock will be? Depending on the cost I might just get a 5D2 rather than the dock.

Not seen any prices for the dock advertised as of yet! But I'll definitely be checking it out because I'm pretty sold on Sigma primes any anyway :p

Okay it's in a DHL van at the moment and I can't help but keep looking out the window :(

Check out this shipment time, how amazingly fast is that shipping!

The delivery status is still as above :( It's on a van or in Southampton DHL still :(

I guess it will be tomorrow it arrives so I won't get to play with it until Monday night!

Take it that it never got delivered on the Friday. You werent the only one who was waiting a lens on Friday that never materialised. Keen to see what you think of this one mrk!

Arrived today and unboxed, had a good old play. The weather is poor so can't do anything until really the weekend I guess but I have a wedding on the 22nd so that will be the real test.

Let's get the bad points out of the way first:
- The box is no longer black! NOOOOOOOOOOOO! It also doesn't feel as tough as previous Sigma boxes.
- The delivery note said it was a "gift lens" and marked at $17 :eek::eek:, though it is DHL so I wasn't worried about it being manhandled badly :p

Phew, that took a while :p

The lens feels solid, it has lots of metal inside by the feel of it and on the outside the focus ring is metal as is the polished ring above the mounting plate, feels good indeed and unlike any other Sigma lens in this range. Definitely amped if this is the direction for all their new lenses!

The hood now has a ring of rubber where the mount/inscription is, it has a different texture to hoods of previous lenses, more matte.

It doesn't weigh that much less than the 85 1.4 even though it's thinner but slightly taller (same height with hoods attached).

Not quite sure what the 012 means, number 12 in production?

Sorry my samples right now will be standard stuff, the weather is rubbish and nothing is happening until at least the weekend :(

The below are untouched, just imported in LR then exported to jpg. The contrast is really impressive I found.

In the 1-2 hours I've been playing I've learnt that there is some purple and green fringing at 1.4, not tested where it stops fringing yet but on the 85mm the fringes stop at around 1.6-2.0 depending on the level of over exposure in those highlight areas but again, a mouse wheel up in the purple/green slider in the calibration tab in LR and it's completely sorted.

The sharpness is very good, probably a bit better than the 85mm I have in fact which also needed no microadjust.

I'll get better samples over the next few days, weather permitting!

For the £535 I paid for it, I'm chuffed with what I'm seeing!

Some more (corner AF points) samples with 100% crop, again, all 1.4, no sharpening on the crops, no processing on anything. These were shot at the closest possible distance before the AF fails as you're too close.

I'm loving how close you can get to stuff with this.

I agree, I think the black looks very good. Whilst image quality is the ultimate decider for me obviously, I do appreciate aesthetics and have always felt the matte black and gold of Sigma lens' thus far is a bit "cheesy". I really like the look of this.... a lot.

Don't tell him that mrk has just gone out to get a gold marker pen and some glue and glitter ;)

Lol :p

The A symbol is an indented piece of trim, I keep thinking it's a sticker and want to peel it off! Like those little "made in China" stickers you get on toys and such like.

I may just go for a night walk later on as it's pretty dry out there now, gonna be cold though but would be nice to see what the bokeh is like out in the street!

The lens reminds me of the Zeiss.

I'm sure they got the inspiration from it!
