I'm certainly willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, he wouldn't of been my first choice but it is what it is. What we don't want is supporters not willing to back the new manager like the Liverpool supporters did with Hodgson and Chelsea supporters with Benitez

Agreed, Good luck Davey Boy :)

I think most fans will but that doesn't make a whole lot of difference to whether or not he is good enough and able to build the club. I don't want a manager that is stable but doesn't win anything.

There is a danger of United getting left behind and doing a Liverpool if Moyes can't improve the football we play. Fergie has compensated for the current teams lack of brilliant football for a few years but once he has left we need to sort that out.

To be honest I think with a couple of top quality signings we will have no trouble next year. Would be nice to see a bit more of a "first team" at United rather than Fergies policy of punishing players for good performances. I want to see much more of Kagawa next year and much less of Giggs.

Interesting comments here, almost stupid even.

I'll copy pasta my status.

Do united want a short term manager like Mourinho? It has never been in their interests for a short term goal, such would be Mourinho, he'll do 2 years or so and want 'the next challenge'.

Longevity. David Moyes. United may slump at first but such short sightedness will be turmoil for the club, do we want to be like Liverpool and Chelsea with new managers every year..

As for 'his experience' lol ffs fergie didn't have the 'experience' back then either.

Daft.

Indeed, the replacement should be backed regardless of who it is. It's possible we'll go through a season or two of winning nothing but the last thing I want is us turning into Chelsea with a new manager each year.

That being said, if he sticks Jones in midfield then string him up.

Think what you like. :)

It's not the same as the playoffs. Despite it's moniker, The Champions League still a cup competition. It's much like playing in the FA Cup before the 1st round proper. The games are still part of the FA Cup, in the same way that Champions League qualifiers are part of the Champions League competition.

You can emphasise "qualifier" as much as you like.

By that definition then the Premier League is also still a cup competition.

UEFA also disagree with you as they define the Champions League thus:

As of 2011, the UEFA Champions League commences with a double round-robin group stage of 32 teams, which is preceded by two qualification 'streams' for teams that do not receive direct entry to the tournament proper. The tournament proper begins with a group stage of 32 teams, divided into eight groups..

http://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles.../Regulations/01/63/02/44/1630244_DOWNLOAD.pdf

This confirms that the Champions league is preceded by the Qualifiers and that they are not the League Proper.

Not by anyone on here he wasn't, you included

I joined here the week he was sacked?

Unless you mean when he got us into the relegation zone, blamed only the players and we realised how **** thr football was, it was nothing like being hated as soon as he came

You got to give moyes credit to have the balls to take the job, it will be exciting to see what he does and if he gets a transfer kitty.I see Rooney leaving now but I do think lewendowski will sign and I am hoping bale

Do you seriously think that its anything like as easy to stay in a job at one of the top clubs in the world as it was then? Were United one of the biggest clubs in the world at the time and winning plenty?

Look at Liverpool and how a few bad years can screw you over for the next 5. Take your foot off the gas for a few years and suddenly you are not earning the money required to compete in the transfer market and your commercial revenues drop off and you are not such an attractive prospect for the top players in the world.

What?? Ferguson had already won a league title and a major European competition by the time he came to Utd. He had no experience of English football, granted, but to end the Celtic/Rangers stranglehold in Scotland was a massive achievement, and then to win in Europe with a small club like Aberdeen (relatively speaking) was unbelievable.

like the Liverpool supporters did with Hodgson

Oh dear. If you look back to when Hodgson go the job, the reaction from Liverpool fans was very similar to the reaction from Utd to the possible news of Moyes getting the Utd job. Some thought it was a bad choice (including me) but would give him a chance and others (stupidly) thought he'd do well. There was then little or no unrest from supporters (both on forums/twitter or in the stadium) until a couple of months into the season when we were at the bottom of the table, playing **** football and Hodgson kept saying retarded things.

He lost the backing of the supporters and even then, the unrest was only ever really shown on forums/twitter - there was no abuse in the stadium like we see Benitez getting at Chelsea.

"David Moyes' Everton side has never been able to beat Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool away in 44 attempts."

Is this true?! This will have to change.

Well he won't have to worry about beating one of those sides ;)

Really? If he goes to United I wouldn't think you'd want Everton winning away at Old Trafford :p
