Cracking appointment, and a 6 year contract. Why have a CL winning manager that was gagging to come when you can have an average manager that has done an ok job. Great stuff

To be fair, Pep Guardiola played a lot of European Football prior to be being a manager so he had significant European experience, Moyes doesn't, he also had a season being groomed with the Barcelona B team.

Essentially Guardiola had significantly more experience of European Football than David Moyes does, although that doesn't mean that Moyes wouldn't be a great manager domestically (which we know) or in Europe...it simply means he is untried.

I will give him a chance, although I know a few of the other chaps I sit in the stands with are pretty disappointed at his appointment.

A CL winning manager who would want a fortune to spend and tends to only stay for two or three seasons, before leaving the team in a generally worse state than when he joined.

I like Mourinho however, but I can see why Moyes has been appointed, maybe you can't.

Bring in Solskjær (or someone of his ilk) as assistant manager and in charge of the ressies, learn from Mourinho and then when he inevitably leaves he is ready to take over, he has helped develop the reserves and learnt from a great coach, you also get to possibly win the CL (or at least have a better chance than recent years)

What I would have done personally.

Edit - this could have been the job Mourinho wanted to 'create his dynasty' from too, guess you'll never know. But hey, David Moyes!

Won't stop you from shouting MOYES OUT in two years without a trophy under him, finish third in the league and are in a continual decline.

But hey it's only SIX YEARS :D

What a prospect, what a manager, what a winner!

Poor old Solskjær is languishing at the bottom of the Norwegian Tippeligaen! :p

You make it sound as if we're getting all of the Everton players as well and losing our squad.

If we were going that route I would have rather had Solskjaer come in as assistant a few years ago under Fergie.

Didn't you lot try to get him in some capacity recently anyway? Besides, doesn't have to beSolskjær, just a young hungry manager willing to learn. (Also didn't he win the Norwegian league 2 seasons on the bounce?)

Fergie didn't want to retire though, everyone thought he would go on forever

How have all of Fergies proteges done? All those assistants that went on to glory :p

Why would any of Jose's?

My point was if he was given the job in 2008 instead of the barca job very few of the United fans would have been happy. Very few top level players actually go on to be top tier managers. So I think we can rule out playing european football having much bearing on being a great manager.

you'll get two of them no doubt, baines and felliani and wouldn't supprise me if he tried to take jags either.

he will be good for utd, he's astute and will have sir alex's guiding hand over him from above and he has experience in europe, 3 times, just didn't do very well, but thats not down to him.

good luck davey, just gutted he never won ouwt with us.

If he stops playing Wellbeck on the wings (or at all actually), drops valencia, buys some proper wingers, gives Nani and Kagawa a proper chance in the team. He will already have my blessing :D

Ferguson probably saw Maureen's desire to get into a long term English club and knew that he'd probably overtake his record of trophies so got a very mild cheddar appointment to keep his record safe.

Well one of them went on to manage the Portuguese national team, and another recently won the league as part of the man City management team......so not really sure of your point?

Whilst Moyes isn't quite as bad as Hodgepodge, you can bet that if Man City, Chelsea etc had gone for him the utd fans here would be laughing into their cornflakes.

Not really, I rate him better than Mancini at least. Not Mourinho at the moment though, but over a longer period of time I think he could well end up better; he's certainly a more reliable guy to have.

The point is were any of them fit to take the reigns at united after a long spell with him. So how long has it taken kidd since being assistant to actually do anything of note.

Kidd? He did 7 years with the master and look at his record.
Mclaren?
Quieroz?

Would anyone have actually wanted those if fergie retired. I don't see why it would be any better for Jose to groom an assistant and then expect instant success.

Great news that Moyes has gone to Man.U.

Not only does it mean that he won't be taking over at Chelsea but it should make them a bit weaker as to be fair there's no way he'll be of Fergie's standard for a while at least.
It's going to be fun watching plenty of Man.U. fans frothing at the mouth too if they don't get success for a few seasons as some of them have only ever supported a team that wins things, that's not a dig, just the way it is :)
