*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Always amazed how long it takes for that initial cancellation - just spent 30 minutes on the phone with Sky.

Actually was surprised that their initial retention offer was 50% off the TV only (not including HD - no idea why this is treated, or even billed, separately these days, it should be standard) for 10 months of a 12 month minimum term. So circa £34x10m then £52x2m for the year. Better than the usual 20% on first attempt but still far too expensive in my book, so the cancellation went through.

Very tempted to ignore any retention calls for the next month and see what lands in My Sky after cancellation. I miss so many football games these days Sky seems less and less worth it, in fact, I find myself being in on Saturday mornings and week nights which is when BT have all the games! No chance of me getting that, though. I can't get a BT phoneline so the sport is prohibitively expensive.

good excuse to nip to pub to watch ya game then :D

Binned my Sports now the F1 is coming to an end. With Fiber BB, Line rental and the family bundle (HD + Boxsets + etc) comes to about £55pm. I probably could have haggled lower but it's much better than the astronomical £110pm that my bill had shot back up to.

My service cuts off in a week or so.

I had everything (phone, tv with multiroom & non fibre interwebs) and was also paying £110 a month.

Had a call a week or so after cancelling but they didn't seem interested in keeping me at all..

Contract was up. Just got family pack, hd and sports for £22.50 a month with £50 credit. Included credit In the £22,50

How the hell did you manage that? That's a great price.

We're currently paying £18 for the family bundle (hd) which was an introductory friends and family offer but due to go back upto £36 next month. Just phoned up and the best they could do was 35% off (so £23.40). Adding Sky Sports would be £39! :(

Phoned to see what they could do for us, as I we were coming to the end of our second TV 12 months at half price deal. Now paying less than we were, didn't even threaten to cancel. Chatted to the guy nicely, explaining we were happy but wouldn't be paying full price and he immediately offered me the deal.

Question about multiroom... It's on offer at the moment half price and that includes free box and installation. However I understand the box is not PVR, it will mean I can record things though doesn't it, just not pause and rewind live TV right?

One more question, if I purchased a 2nd hand PVR box off ebay could I just use that instead?

The multiroom I believe is just another standard box in another room? So they run more cables to the room in question, plug in another sky box, and voila.

Maybe someone else can confirm?

This actually put me off of it:-
1) More wires around the house.
2) If you record something on box (A), you can't watch it on box (B).

It's the reason I instead went with a video sender, which then just allows me to watch/play our Sky box (in the lounge) up in our bedroom.

Pros:-
1) No wires
2) Everything done from one box.

Cons:-
1) You can't watch different programs upstairs/downstairs.

The new SkyQ box offers the best of both/all worlds of course:-
1) No wires.
2) You can watch whatever you like from either box.

Just gone through the online shop and it's just the sky HD box, not the sky+HD :( I can upgrade to that but it's £109 one off charge. Stuff that.

If this is your first Multiscreen then try phoning up? The offer in the call centre is free Sky+HD box and free install. If you get no joy then trust me your details and I can get someone to call you next week?

Phoned them up today as we are long out of contract (ADSl Broadband, calls and HD TV - non sports/movies), was polite and explained everything inc the Now TV box I've ordered as well as the constant BT Infinity deals that come through the letterbox, but I was only offered a minimum discount that reduces my bill by about £10 per month, so I though right then cancel....... until they explained that I was on a legacy package which allowed me to get F1 inc with the HD pack, now you can't so if I re-subscribed next season I'd have to take the full sports package which would be wasted on me. A bit of back-peddling was required lol so it looks like I'll need to keep my TV with them but look elsewhere for fiber to reduce the monthly costs.

just been offered 60% off tv package

do you think it would be possible to get 60% off broadband and line rental aswell as I am thinking about swapping over from BT?

If you ask them to cancel it you'll likely be offered something in the 31 days prior to actually losing it. You can even change your mind on the 30th day for the TV and retain the HD mix.
