*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

The problem is their system will give them a limited selection (or possibly none at all) dependign on your package, how long you've been customer and previous offers. it's no longer the case that they can pick and choose from a certain number of offers. If you're interested in Fibre and happy to move to Sky I'm sure they could come up with something for your Line Rental. I don;t think there's many offers on Fibre at the moment though.

My BB/Phone contract is up and my bill has also gone up. Its a shame that customer loyalty is no more.

I have been with Sky since roughly they launched. I will be on the phone, if nothing comes of it I will just cancel Sky.

We cancelled our Sky world package and it got turned off yesterday.
TBH the only things I am going to miss is F1 and the ability to pause/record live tv.
IMO the amount of adverts on sky now is just ridiculous, especially as your paying for the service.
We had sky for over ten years and to be honest I don't think I will be renewing even with a 75% off offer.

The amount and frequency may not have changed but it does seem that the structure of when they show them does. No sooner than a programme has started that it seems to go to the first break. Desperately frustrating...

Hey all,

I created this thread last year because I was increasingly agitated with lack of a discount for sky tv. Having been with them for 9 years I decided to cancel my account.

They did ring me up to offer 50% off for 12 months but would not budge on the HD price or provide me with a free HD box

However I am pleased to confirm that I am back with sky. I got a letter in the post giving me 50% off. I rang to investigate this and after some stern negotiating skills I managed to get 50% off for 12 months, £5 for sky HD for 12 months and two free months of sky go extra ( although anyone can get this)

The cost is £32 for sky world HD
Wll probably remove sky movies at some point to drop the price below £30

So if you are reading this and paying over the odds for sky tv
Cancel your account
Take the hit for a month or two and save yourself some money, it really does work!!

Cancelled my sky tv a month ago had everything bar the movies was costing me around £70 a month so ended up just keeping the phone line and BB, 1 week later 6 months free sky TV leaflet through the door :D thankyou very much! Will cancel after 5 months job done :)

I remember in the late 80s early 90s only one person had Sky in my street. BSkyB on the dish. Yet this day there's hardly a street you can drive past that hasn't got a dish. It's amazing the amount of council houses that have Sky.

Just because they have a dish doesn't mean they pay as much as some people (sky sports, movies etc) They may just have freesat. They may also get phone and internet included which can be a lot cheaper than equivalent separate services :)

@ liamcrane - your probably tied into a 12 month contract.

Nah it was just 6 months free TV, they even told me to make sure if i no longer want it to cancel after 5 months or i would be charged the full fee the following month :)

I don't pay for Sky in our household so I don't mind it being there but if I was responsible for paying i'd need a seriously good deal to keep it up. I used to use it for football but I don't tend to bother anymore.

Pretty much the same mate, i use it mainly for watching the footy. My bro has sky tv as well so when i didnt have the tv package i just used his skygo on my machine to watch the football :p

Yup. Direct from the OFCOM site:

1.3 The rules which apply in the UK set limits for the commercial public service broadcasters (PSBs) Channel 3, Channel 4, S4C and Channel 5 - and all other commercial broadcasters. For example, there is a limit on the average number of minutes per hour of advertising across the day of 7 minutes an hour (off peak) for PSBs and 9 minutes an hour for all other broadcasters .

As far as I know that only applies to paid advertising though. Sky can add to that with adverts for their own services as they're not paid. I'm not sure if there's a limit on that though.

Did you miss the 'and all other commercial broadcasters'? For Sky it's 9 minutes per hour of paid advertising. That's an average as well so they can reduce adverts at night and have some more at peak times.
