*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Have fun watching ****** repeats of rubbish programs on freeview then... I think you will seriously regret cancelling sky very quickly when you realise how poor freeview TV is!

Watch any programs i want before sky uk even airs them, the fact that people pay so much and still have to wait until the US premiers everything is very odd. Honestly if sky would relent on ripping people off I would go with them, but their prices are a joke

People get these huge discounts because the original prices are far and above what they should be. They aren't doing you a favour, they are merely using lube when they bend you over :D

A few years back I rang Sky and tried to get a bit of dscount.
The phone call got a little bit heated and I told the woman to cancell my account.
She did there and then. Straight away my Sky was turned off.
OMG what did I do.
Ten minutes later I rang Sky back up with my tail between my legs asking them to turn it back on.
I felt soooooooooooooo small and I swear I heard the woman laughing.

Could not live without Sky+

@ tnx- its unlikely to be the same woman you got put through too, not impossible but unlikely

anyway.. a lot of people dont realise aswell that when you RECORD stuff from subscription channels - you can not watch those recordings when you get that subscription turned off... I found that out the hard way when I cancelled movies 3 years back, the box actually records the satellite feed encrypted and un-decoded rather than the actually decrypted and encoded movie itself.

we couldnt live without SKY+ and their channels

you can get Freeview+ or Freesat+ with exactly the same Features - my Grandmother is getting a Hitachi HDR255 Twin Tuner Freeview+ that has 250Gb HDD (120 hours recording), it has series link up too... only £49 from eBay

Well yeah, pretty sure everyone here knows about freeview+ but you just don't get the channels. I've got play tv for the ps3, had it ages but it's annoying having the ps3 fans going. Oh and happy new year :)

actually that's not accurate ..

when you stop subscribing to sky you lose "ALL" your recorded material . it doesn't matter ifs from sky 1 or bbc1 .

sky have said its a "software" issue , but i'd love to take them on in court to prove thats bs

yep all of it is lost like BBC1 or ITV

I can no longer series record programs either but I still got my PC and windows media player on freeview for all that :)

tis like a RAID1 setup, but only 1 drive atm lol :)

They have to set it so that you need to subscribe to the channel at the time of playback otherwise thousands of people would be taking movies for a month at a time, filling their box with movies then cancelling them. Besides its a good way to make sure people keep subscribing.

It must be over a year now since we cancelled our Sky service - we initially had the full package plus the broadband which I found to be nothing more than an utter joke of a service given the amount of traffic shaping they implemented!

Staying on topic with their television subscription, I can honestly say we haven't missed their service one iota. Taking into consideration the cost per month and the amount of adverts they show (20 mins per hour) the films I've either already got on Blu Ray along with series I can get elsewhere (without the adverts) for free and usually long before they air here on Sky! They've phoned us a quite a few times and sent letters offering 25% and 50% off XYZ package for 12 months. Even if they offered it to me for free I'd probably tell them to ram it - we're having our harling done on the house later this year and the dish will be coming down then too.

Good riddance to them, they'll never receive our custom again!

Cancelled our TV packaged years ago as the only ones who ever watched it were the kids for the cartoon channels.

Bought a Freeview HD box and a BR player instead.

Cancelled Sky before Christmas as I stopped using their Umlimited broadband as the speeds were pretty naff and the router had firmware issues which they refused to solve.

Had Virgin Media installed purely for broadband and then the other half suggested we get rid of sky since majority of the channels are just pap anyway. So we did, not looked back since. Still don't know why both Virgin and Sky say you need a phone line with their packages at £14 a month or there abouts. Complete waste of money

Sky sucks ....our 42'' has Sky and it's a waste of time/money, get Freeview HD only

every single programme i watched last night was on 1080i HD, I never knew HD was so widespread now on Freeview, it's on all 4 channels.
