*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Did you miss the 'and all other commercial broadcasters'? For Sky it's 9 minutes per hour of paid advertising. That's an average as well so they can reduce adverts at night and have some more at peak times.

When I'm watching Everybody Loves Raymond through the night 4:10, Comedy Central, you usually only get one ad, or a Comedy Central programme ad that lasts 30 seconds and it's back to whatever you're watching. :D

Through the night is the best.

Careful, you'll end up with 8% space free on the HDD like me! Every time I watch something to get the space back, I end up finding something else to record so I'm not really getting anywhere.

The HD channels are nice though, although I do find they make the non-HD channels look and sound even worse by comparison. The audio quality on most of the SD channels is abysmal, like listening to a low-bitrate MP3.

Just ordered Sky, to replace Virgin. Martin Lewis had a limited deal where it was half price for 12 months for new customers so couldn't resist.

Gone for the full Sky World package and multiroom which came in at £48 a month. Just got to decide whether or not to add ESPN. I watch footy on it, but with Virgin it was included with Sports, not sure i could justify the extra £10 a month.

Can you have Youview and Sky fibre BB or do you have to have BT broadband for youview?

I don't watch that much TV but must have the broadband service as its a year and I only signed last November...

Thanks

It must be over a year now since we cancelled our Sky service - we initially had the full package plus the broadband which I found to be nothing more than an utter joke of a service given the amount of traffic shaping they implemented!

Staying on topic with their television subscription, I can honestly say we haven't missed their service one iota. Taking into consideration the cost per month and the amount of adverts they show (20 mins per hour) the films I've either already got on Blu Ray along with series I can get elsewhere (without the adverts) for free and usually long before they air here on Sky! They've phoned us a quite a few times and sent letters offering 25% and 50% off XYZ package for 12 months. Even if they offered it to me for free I'd probably tell them to ram it - we're having our harling done on the house later this year and the dish will be coming down then too.

Good riddance to them, they'll never receive our custom again!

thats clearly lies as sky never have traffic shaping

Lot of hate for sky here it seems! I honestly couldn't live without it be be honest, love recording everything and watching when I like. Yes I know you can do this for free but I love watching all the stuff on sky discovery, living, entertainment etc! And ofc F1.

Thats because it IS a low bitrate Mp3.... 96-128kbps or 192kbps absolute best case....

You should try freeview it is even worse.

I dunno, I listen to a lot of 129Kbps streams and 192Kbps MP3s and none of it sounds as bad as many of the SD channels on Sky do.

Also, I'm rather stunned that Sky expect you to start paying full-price again after giving you a year cheap through an F&F deal. There's no way in hell I'll be doing that, if they're not going to be willing to negotiate I'll simply cancel it.
