*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Sky sucks ....our 42'' has Sky and it's a waste of time/money, get Freeview HD only

every single programme i watched last night was on 1080i HD, I never knew HD was so widespread now on Freeview, it's on all 4 channels.

Wow, all 4? :p

Am still in contract till march but ill be cancelling it when I can. Only cos ive got TalkTalk Youview with phone and broadband etc. Get it free cos I work for em, well I dont get the boosts free but still cheaper than sky at least.

I moved from Sky to Virgin few years back. I said regardless of what they offer I want to cancel. It took a while but in the end they gave up and let me go. I recently cancelled Virgin TV and now only have their broadband. Freeview does me fine. £30 saved a month.

I hate Sky tbh. They have such a monopoly how can any other station compete? Really really annoyed me when they took F1.

What would you do if the BBC came and offered it to you? Take it of course. They didn't take it from anyone, they were offered it to them by the BBC who wanted a partner.

Cancelled Sky about 4 months ago and within a month i had a 75% off for 12 months offer and a £50 account credit through the post.
Full package, HD, ESPN is £34 a month.

I hate you lol

I bet you saw that on hotukdeals

this is the deal EVERYONE wants!

Well after a very frustrating morning trying to work out a deal with Sky for tv, phone and fibre pro, I am now seriously considering jacking the lot in until they offer me something better.

I do however have a couple of questions:

1. I know I will lose access to recordings and the ability to record but what about the fact that we have two boxes in the house? Will one of the boxes lose access to freeview content?

2. Our standard aerial is in pretty shoddy condition and I haven't used it since getting satellite installed. Do the Sky boxes make use of the satellite dishes even when Sky is turned off? Having to get the tv aerial and cabling sorted would rather defeat the purpose or what I am trying to achieve.

3. Is the 75% offer starting to dry up? Am I wasting my time going through all this malarkey?

Currently I pay:

£75/month for Sky World, HD and a multiroom SD Sky +.
£18.50/month for Be Unlimited 24mbps
£19.50/month for BT Anytime

Current total: £113/month

This is just insane and I really want to reduce it but not just by dropping a package or two of Sky.

Would really appreciate some advice.

You're right, that is insane. From following this thread so far, it seems most people are only having any joy if they downgrade their packages or cancel the service entirely. Whether you want to go through that or not is up to you. General consensus on here and elsewhere though seems to be that they won't do much to keep you, but rather send you offers a few weeks/months later to get you back.

If you consolidated all your services (TV, phone and broadband) into one provider it'd probably work out a lot cheaper. The alternative is to cancel something like your broadband, and start again with a new provider at a better deal. Don't forget cashback websites like TopCashBack or Quidco either, you can often get £50-100 back for starting new contracts for TV, broadband etc.

I'm paying £15.87pm for Sky HD at the moment, and once the £100 cashback comes in that'll have halved the cost of the contract for the year. Well worth looking into.

To answer your question, both the Sky boxes will receive Freesat from Sky if/when you cancel your Sky service, so you'll just get the standard free channels.

To get any offers 50% - 75% off you really need to cancel and wait for a offer, I've just singed back up for 50% off with no 12 month contract. Also just got sky fibre installed. Free install and 1/2 price for 3 months. Over the 12 months it works out slightly cheaper than I was paying BT and O2 separate but is much faster. It's worth living without your tv package a month or so IMO to get the deal.

MSE are giving away 50% off codes on monday for new customers.

Im just out of contract now so will phone on sunday and armed with that and current offers from other providers will see what sky say.
Would be happy with the 50% off for 12month tbh.

Good luck mate, I threw all sorts of other deals at them on the phone. They wouldn't budge. But they may well move if new customers are getting a deal.
