*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Just had Sky phone me with another offer.... !

Free Line rental, Braodband £7.50, 50% off TV package !

This reduces my bill by another £9.90 per month !

Stop trolling, there are plenty of benefits.

  • Ability to record four things at once and watch a fifth.
  • Much improved interface.
  • All recordings available everywhere.
  • No cabling needed to additional boxes.
  • No monthly surcharge for additional boxes.
  • UHD compatibility when launched.
  • Ability to download recordings to iPad and take away from home.
  • Ability to stream live TV or recordings to iPad.

There are also a lot of limitations and issues and the system isn't for everyone right now but these will be addressed over time as the system evolves, just as the current Sky+HD service is unrecognisable from what was originally launched a decade ago.

For some the limitations will outweigh the advantages so it's worth thinking about it first but for many of us it's a superb system which works very well.

I also agree, I don't see any benefit in this, or having Sky TV in general, just a huge cost for something my family would never use.

What kind of argument is that? It's like saying SUVs are pointless because you don't have kids.

If it doesn't suit your particular needs or circumstances then fine but that doesn't make it an inherently poor or substandard product.

errrr to be fair he didnt say it was poor or substandard. He said he didnt see any benefit in having Sky Q. Thats a bit different to what you said he said.....

just did a chat to cancel my Sky TV and this is what I was offered.

Thanks for your patience Julian, what I suggest we do today is keep you on exactly the same base package as this absolutely works for both you and your family. remove the Sports and the movies. add a 30% off TV for 5 years loyalty offer, your new bill will be £25.20. This means you can still enjoy everything we have discussed and gain a discount. How does that sound?

Then I said no thanks I can get what I want with BT TV for £15 per month (then £21 after 12 months). The chat then seemed to then end abruptly with my t&c of ending and that was it. Almost like I offended them :)
Didnt even offer to replace my Sky HD box which is quite old (and custom modded :) ) I would have had to pay £80 for Sky HD full package or £92 for Sky Q from August. Price is not bad especially fixed for 5 years (prob subject to annual price rise) I was on £31 Sky HD full package with discount. What I didnt say is I get BT TV for free so I think this time round I`m going to get out of the discount roundabout for a bit.

What is interesting is I was not offered Sky Q and no mention of it. You would have thought they would. Curious. Signed back into My Sky and there is a 50% off any TV bundle for 12 months appeared.

We just cancelled Sky. We've had it for years but the contract was in my mums name. She has moved out and they still tried to get her to take out a discounted price.

Since you can't transfer over to someone else, I'm not going into a new contract for myself. Alternately I'm going to just get Now TV since we don't watch most of the channels they provide on normal Sky.

A similiar situation to us.We cancelled sky a few months ago when our contract finished and havent looked back since. Sky obviously has its advantages but when you only watch a few channels,no point in paying over the odds when you can get cheaper alternatives.

Four mini boxes are indeed possible, however, only two Mini boxes can be used at any one time. If this isn't suitable then Q won't work.

I had no idea that it worked like Sky Go Extra lol, worst thing is, i work for Sky haha! Granted i wouldn't cos they have a team dedicated to Sky Q and we normal tech agents get it later. I'm sure that we only recently started being allowed to send out replacement Q routers.

bad reveal in a "Cancel sky" thread :D

I think Sky have given up on me.

My Sky TV runs out on Sunday but I've only had retentions ring me once (that I didn't answer) since I cancelled.

Last year they were ringing me everyday.

I wouldnt worry. Let it lapse and wait for your mysky offers to update (Mine is showing 60% off plus £25 credit at the moment for example) :)

I do have a 50% off TV offer on the Sky website, but I was waiting for them to ring me to see if I could get more :D

I also want to see if I can bundle cheaper broadband into the deal as previously I was only paying line rental, but I am now paying £7.50 a month on top. £24.90 is too expensive given all the broadband new customer deals available with other providers.
