*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

I have 3 boxes in the house, would all 3 be upgraded then?

No. With SkyQ you get one 'main' box and the other boxes are Mini boxes with no direct connection to the dish. In your case one box would need to be replaced with a SkyQ Silver box and two minis, one of which would need to be a £99 upgrade as the Silver bundle only comes with a single Mini.

I'm moving house towards the end of this year (currently with Sky) will need 3 TVs connected to Sky in our side of the house and another 2 in the In-laws annex thats being built next door, if I call Sky will they take me through the cost and options, also I'd like to take advantage go MissChiefs offers if possible for Q :)

I thought Q Silver allowed max of 4 mini boxes......but might be wrong
That would give 5 screens you need :)

Edit: The Sky Q 'build your bundle' webpage seems to allow adding a maximum of 4 mini boxes, so suggests 4 are ok

Four mini boxes are indeed possible, however, only two Mini boxes can be used at any one time. If this isn't suitable then Q won't work.

Hi

Isn't that odd being allowed such a number but restricted ability of only 2 at a time? So if me and the wife in one room, kids in another and in-laws in the annex one of us can't use sky?

Thanks

Poor design no?

not having a dig just thought thats a pain

Certainly for me it is. 2 huge downgrades if I was to switch to Q. Not only would I lose three 2TB boxes and being able to watch a 4th with the standard 500GB box. Then you're stuck with only being able to view 2 mini boxes.

Yet they say Sky Q is such a big upgrade with only one 2TB box and limited multiscreen.

Thats me out of the Q solution then... Why would they design to restrict your customers like that

Probably because most are on the standard 500 box/drive. It'll be a big upgrade if your only box is 1 box with 500GB, even though 250 is reserved for On Demand.

I mean lets face it, your average joe isn't going to pop open the matt black box and install a 1 - 2TB.

Just cancelled all my sky services tv and fibre broadband. Was close to 80 quid a month and the best they could offer to stay was 66 a month. Will wait and see if they offer me anything better.

Renewed the other day with a 50% off TV page, free Broadband, £3 for anti Virus per mth + line rental.
I did have a phone call to stay but was offered 35% and the original cost quotes put by package to almost £60 per month !

Game Of Thrones and few other programmes on Sky Atlantic keep me with Sky.
I will look for alternatives for services next year though as I still think Sky is expensive !

Sky Q sounds very restrictive. Cant actually see any current benefits of it

Stop trolling, there are plenty of benefits.

  • Ability to record four things at once and watch a fifth.
  • Much improved interface.
  • All recordings available everywhere.
  • No cabling needed to additional boxes.
  • No monthly surcharge for additional boxes.
  • UHD compatibility when launched.
  • Ability to download recordings to iPad and take away from home.
  • Ability to stream live TV or recordings to iPad.

There are also a lot of limitations and issues and the system isn't for everyone right now but these will be addressed over time as the system evolves, just as the current Sky+HD service is unrecognisable from what was originally launched a decade ago.

For some the limitations will outweigh the advantages so it's worth thinking about it first but for many of us it's a superb system which works very well.

I dont think hes trolling bit harsh he was offering an opinion just like you. People spout the troll word too willy nilly these days to something they dont agree with.

For instance your benefits above do not convince me to pay £92 a month for not much better than what I have now with Sky HD.

1. Doesnt bother me
2. I think Sky HD interface is ok, you wanna try the BT one !
3. Dont need it
4. Already got ethernet down
5. Dont have multiroom
6. Already got UHD with BT and Netflix not seen any Sky UHD content wanting me to have it
7 & 8 Dont have and never will have Apple devices.

The above is just my opinion, take it or leave it doesnt bother me.

Though I will add I've decided to cancel Sky this month and not going to bother with anymore special offers too.
After all this is a Sky cancel thread the other thread is for Sky Q discussions...... ;)

Thanks mate. Your opinion is pretty much the same as mine. Don't know why the other bloke accused me of trolling. I am the type of person that always wants the newest kit but at the moment sky q has too many issues on top of the extra expense.

Seems like as soon as you say something other people don't agree with you are immediately a troll.

We just cancelled Sky. We've had it for years but the contract was in my mums name. She has moved out and they still tried to get her to take out a discounted price.

Since you can't transfer over to someone else, I'm not going into a new contract for myself. Alternately I'm going to just get Now TV since we don't watch most of the channels they provide on normal Sky.

Apologies if I accused you of trolling unfairly, just that many are and it's getting a bit tiresome. Been a long week.
