*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

It was 30% or something for a couple of weeks after I first cancelled, then went to 50% when I checked yesterday.

How long till it went up to 50%...

Thing that worries me is I'll swear some folks have mentioned things being disconnected before the 4 weeks is up!?

Nice! Did you phone them to cancel or chat/email them? Did they keep trying to get you stay or quite happily let you cancel. Don't want to be fobbed off with 15%!

Why not cancel, leave. Then join up in your partner/family members name and take advantage of new customer offers. All new equipment, 50% off, quidco cashback (£150 max), selling all your old/new equipment.

Ah I didn't realise you could decrypt recorded programs once you've resubscribed as a new customer - I thought they might be locked to the 'old' customer's account.

I suppose you've got to wait 30+ days without Sky in the house before you can be a new customer.

So you're fairly comfortable you have another week (or so) of service from Sky... and then things will be disconnected!?

I cancelled on the 9th of June (service would have ended on 10th August), had 30% discount offers on the website every time I checked until yesterday when it had gone up to 50%. Inadvertently I accepted that 50% offer (there's no price breakdown to tell you what you'll be paying before you confirm) but I'll talk to them today either via live chat or phone to ensure it's a 50% discount on my entire bill. If so, I'll probably live with that, seems reasonable and doubt I'll get anything better considering it's just the basic TV package with HD.

I cancelled via live chat. Spoke to a fairly friendly person on there who wanted the usual info about how I use Sky, what I like to watch, whether changing my package would bring the price down, whether I wanted broadband and phone. The final offer was poor so I politely declined and went forward with the cancellation. They'll tell you that's the best offer available to you but it's clearly not, so don't be swayed. :)

I live on my own so using another name as a new customer isn't really a viable option that I'd be comfortable with, and as appealing as new kit is, I'd lose my current recordings, series links etc so it's just not worth the hassle.

Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to hear, the hassle of a new customer setup is not worth the extra money at the moment. Maybe when the box starts playing up in the future I will go down that route.

Cheers :)

Sky normally tell you the exact date. I think it's a 30 day minimum notice period. You could however state you want to be disconnected in say 35 days or something.

I'll swear someone here had stuff disconnect well before those 30 days were up... Maybe that was a mistake/one off!?

No you have to wait 12 months if it's going to be in your name. In someone else's name it's 0 days.

I don't think that is possible 30 days is the minimum unless there was special circumstances.

I came back for 60% off and £100 credit. It was a few weeks after the service was shut off, though.

Obviously the longer you wait and the better the member of staff you deal with the better the offer will be.

Someone on here got sky free for 3-6 months before with no contract they stated they were in between jobs and would come back when they had got a job. They said well you can have it for free then for a short period of time.

This effectively stops that person from taking out a new customer deal in future.

Im on live chat cancelling, been on 1 hour!! she offered me 60% off again.

can i ask Robert you have massive offer on your tv services that is about to end 13th Sept 2016 is this part of why you are looking into the cancellation today ?

Yep

if i could offer you this offer again for another 12 months entering you into a new 12 month minimum term would keeping the sky be an option for you today ?

Nope.

60% off is a pretty good deal though?

It is Misschief, i know you work for sky, funds are tight though. If they werent id have taken it.

In a couple of months, ill look again, but with the new silver boxes out,and 4k football, and that deal you put up a few days ago, id want one of those.

My sky box must be 3-4 yrs old now.

Have just phoned to cancel sky myself . My deal has run out of 50% off and £100 credit and bill will be £119.40 next month currently paying £56 . Offered me £87.39 a month to stay .
I wish they wouldn't give the loyal customer speech of 9 years when we all know it's bull lol

I have never ever managed to get a "loyal" customer deal to better, match or come close to a new customer deal.

The same thing happens with insurance, mortgages, phone contracts, utilities. As soon as your deal/contract runs out you should look for the best new customer deal.
