*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Just cancelled a minute ago on live chat., All he offered me was 40% off the tv package dropping my package price from £110 to about £83 so told him to go ahead with the cancellation. He was a bit arsey with me too lol.

He advised me that the name and address used to sign up would not be open to new customer sign up offers for 12 months.

we had Sky at the old house a few years back but now the boys are older and they are more into watching Netflix and YouTube on the smart Tv we have not bothered with it.

I don't even think there is an aerial plugged into the Tv to be honest..

The wife watches her stuff on Netflix and the only time I watch the Tv is if theres a film on Netflix I fancy watching.

Sky BB is a waste of time in our area were with BT and get around 18Mb which is good for our area

I am surprised that people pay for a Sky TV package on top of a TV license and Netflix, it must add up to over a £100 a month including line rental and broadband.

yea we only took on Netflix after we moved and never took back up with Sky.

as for the Tv licence as we dont watch live Tv we informed them of this and dont pay that either.

I think I heard that as of 1st September they have changed the TV license. Now has to be purchased for catchup tv as Well, and I'm sure I read that they want to make every house hold pay no matter what you watch.

Yep, came in this morning and a perfectly sensible change to close the 'loophole'. Basically if you watch BBC content in any way shape or form, you pay for it.

yea just had a quick read up on this.. it more or less covers the BBC iplayer for the catchup tv and a few other parts of the iplayer.

the wife is really the only one that uses the TV to watch programs and the ones she watches are on Netflix. ( shes in the process of watching vampire diaries!! )

the kids watch youtube, Netflix or the youngest just plays games on it!!

me.... I hardly use it when I do as I say its normally a film on Netflix or a DVD when im in my self its music ill have on.

Just made my annual cancellation. Easily the shortest phone call I've had with them. Call was less than 10 minutes, half of which was the initial wait.

Tho I did notice that the automated introduction now offered to continue my current discount for 10 months. But I didn't quite trust that since my discount ended a couple of months ago and I wasn't prepared to take the chance of being stuck on £81 a month for the next year.

Put in my cancellation last week. Signed in to my account today and I have 60% discount off all TV packages waiting for me.

Is it worth holding out for more? as I still have about 3 weeks until it is actually switched off..

Ideally I am hoping they offer free broadband at line rental charge only (which I have at the moment) and a £50/£100 credit to my account, in addition to 60% discount.

Recently added Skysports earlier in the week but its a load of rubbish besides the football and cricket.

Just legends of programs most of the time and I really want to cancel it.

What are my cancellation rights? Obviously happy to pay for this month but I'm hoping there is some kind of cooling off period where I can pull out.

I just signed up to sky but its turns out they have only given me a 1tb box not a 2tb like i was expecting, they want to charge me a extra £99 or £12 month, so im thinking of canceling.

Does anyone know if can cancel and i sign up to any other new sky deals in the next 30 days ?

So a week after cancelling and ignoring the 50% offer, they've come back with a 60% offer.

Took that and in 12 months time I'll play the game again.

I cancelled via webchat on Saturday and usually wait for them to call me. Nothing heard so far and no offer in my account so I called them.
Asked the guy straight out what was on offer and got 60% off but no credit this time.

Might upgrade to Q now for the extra £12 a month... total £44.

You can easily get 60% off and you can normally get 50-100 credit.
There is a long running post on HUKD about this, I did it last year for myself and a few other people.

I just use the online chat, cancel on there, then find the "Coming back to sky" chat link and you can ask for it instantly :)

We cancelled Movies and Sky Sports saving 46.50 Euro. The service is far too expensive when you take into consideration how easily accessible everything is now with internet.

In the coming years when their numbers will be dropping they will have to reconsider their business model and come up with something unique.

Just cancelled and then went straight back on chat to be offered 60% off and a £50 credit, could have maybe got more out of them but the gf is already delighted with that and it was not bad for 40 mins 'playing the game.'
