*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

We have standard Sky and Multi Room with a HD Box, Everything is repeated which is a shame, But whenever we haven't got it we miss it for some unknown reason.

Luckily I use my Girlfriends account to stream Sky Go (Films & Sports)

Also just upgraded to BT Infinity, From August will have BT Sports.

So at this rate it's pretty much a waste of money :P

I've also got rid of my sky TV package, just use the free channels and kept my internet with them. So much cheaper and I don't really miss the other stuff :)

Bit of advice. We are thinking of moving home, the property we would move to already has sky/ skytalk/ and internet, same as us.
Would we have to start all over again, get a sky engineer in to set the tv up,wait for 2 weeks for a BT engineer to sort the line before we could get 'net back, or could it all be switched automatically?
Or would it just be better to go in as a 'new' customer (in the wifes name) and end up with a new box and one of the deals?

new customer - up to £300 in cashback (quidco), cheaper subscription, etc, etc, etc.

unless you like to throw away money then there is no reason not to do it that way.

why do you have "standard" sky yet pay £10 per month for multiroom?

surely having a freeview or freesat setup in the second room would be a much better option?

the main reason people get sky is for sports or epic shows like the walking dead and game of thrones, etc.

tbh sky is a really really good tv service, it's just too expensive imo unless you get a good deal.

more people need to star watching "decent" tv and stop watching crap like eastenders in order for more decent tv to be made, but if people keep watching crap they will keep pumping out more crap.

Just decided to sort my Sky, Telephone and Broadband out.

At the moment i get free Broadband as I am a Contract Orange customer. But that will end in October.

Sky, Broadband & Phone
6th June 2013

Presently paying:

Sky @ £22 per month x12 =£264.00
BT Phone @ £18 per month x12 =£216.00

Total =£480.00

Deal with Sky: 12 month contract

If I pay my land line Phone as a one off payment now @ £119.40 for the next 12 months
(saving me £54.60 as would normally be £14.50 per month = £174.00)

Then:

Sky & Broadband would be:

= 1st 6 months @ £22.00 per month x6 £132.00
=2nd 6 months @ £29.50 per month x6 £177.00

Total for 12 months £309.00

Line Rental @£119.40 £428.40
Good will gesture / credit from Sky £25.00

Total £403.40

in reality = over a 12 month period,
per month (including my one off payment
of £119.40 line rental) £33.61

Saving of £6.39 per month (£76.68 per year)

But includes Broadband!

So I think that is a good enough deal for the next 12 months. They are ringing me back in an hour or so to see if I wish to continue.

best way to see if it is a good deal or not is to see what a "new" customer would pay for it.

bare in mind sky are offering up to £300 cashback through quidco atm, as well as additional discounts, cashbacks, m and s vouchers, etc.

It hasn't changed in a long time.... I can't remember the last time I've ever seen a great sitcom. Everything is full of game shows, reality and soap crap.

Those are not sitcoms?... I've heard of a lot of them, tried to watch a number and couldn't get into them. Yet I'm still watching Friends, Taxi and Everybody Loves Raymond even though I could act the part. :(

I plan on cancelling Sky but want to keep it until after The Lions tour- last match is on the 6th July. Does anyone know what the procedure is? They say I need to give a months notice but I remember cancelling packages before and they were cut of within a few hours even though I probably already paid to have them for a few more weeks.

surely the comedy channels have all that stuff on them? two and a half men and king of queens? that sort of stuff?

personally i am not into that sort of thing but im sure it all comes on the same channel as each other.

you should have haggled with them.

i bet if you asked you may of got it, because they must have targets or quotas to meet.

Those where all postal offers
When I rang to cancel to get discount the woman only offered like 10 quid off for 3 months and adamant there would be no offers though the post :p

Well, thats just it. Sure some of that was good. Two and a Half Men, LoL! thats moronic now. Plus it's not really Two and a Half Men when he's no longer a boy.

However, King of Queens used to be good but not after one has seen it all over 100 times an episode. Same with Friends and Everybody Loves Raymond. Though I really miss 3rd Rock from the Sun. That was such a good laugh.

Just arrived home from work yesterday and there's knock at the door from a chap from Sky who correctly informs me of my name and the fact I used to have Sky.

He then asks "Is there any deal or anything you think we could do to have you back as a customer?"

He seemed genuinely surprised when I replied regardless of the deal or package offered I would never return to Sky as a customer. Twenty minutes of adverts per hour and a broadband service that is nothing short of farcical and they want me to pay money for this . . . . . . . .

Mr Murdoch can fund his own divorce without my financial help :p
