*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

You can pause your Sports Subs.

https://www.sky.com/shop/covid19-customer-update?irct=CHP-tile#section-12

While we expect that many of the recently postponed sports events will eventually go ahead, if you wish to pause your sports subscription in the meantime you will not be charged a fee to do so or be held to any notice period. Meanwhile we continue to provide high quality content across all of our 11 sports channels. We are sorry that you are currently unable to pause your Sky Sports subscription online.

And apparently if you currently have a deal on Sky sports (as many do) and you pause, sky cannot guarantee you will go back on the deal price which in effect means you will go on normal price and I don't believe sky are sorry about being unable to pause online as they are known for making things difficult online.

Giving with one hand and taking it back in another. Unbelievable.

You can just imagine the board meeting can't you... "What if we make it vague that people might lose their discount deals if they decide to pause, they might then be afraid to pause at all....", "Good idea Henderson, I knew I was right to put you in charge of the Customer Screwing Dept."

You can't pause, it's misleading. If you ring up, all they will do it cancel your sub. When you want to renew you will have whatever offers are available at the time.
Not true when I called. They told me the channels will remain active, they just won’t charge me for three months.

What? So they are essentially auto waiving the fee for 3 months, but you have to ring them to do it?? What? Can the Sky reps please fully explain what is going on please?

That’s exactly what I was told, yes. I asked her three times as I didn’t believe it, but she confirmed.

I'll be cancelling my subscription when my contract ends, I can't think of a company that treats their customers with such contempt as Sky do. You get reeled in with 'offers' and then your package cost rockets, including cost increases along the way. Sports is the biggest joke, especially considering the Sky sports package hasn't come down in price since they lost European football to BT years ago.

Their lack of forward thinking with the cancelation of sporting events due to the Coronavirus speaks volumes about Sky. As it currently stands, the only party losing out is their customers who are still paying for their sports package and not receiving what they paid for, whilst Sky is still making a profit from selling that package and the EPL and other bodies selling broadcasting rights are getting paid by Sky. I don't buy this "you're paying for access to the channel" **** either because it's obvious nobody would pay for re-runs and filler content.

Don't even get me started on Sky Movies, constant re-runs such as channels dedicated to Harry Potter and other franchises time to time, showing the same repeated films for weeks on end.

I honestly wouldn't shed a tear if Sky were to somehow, even as unlikely as it is, go bust - I would love it.

So having looked into this you can pause your sky sports payments but retain the channels. At the moment it’s not sure when the offer will end, there’s no fixed period. As the channels aren’t being removed the contract and duration of any offers won’t change. So for example if your offer ends next month you still won’t pay before and after your offer ends but when sports resumes you’ll be charged full price. If you have ten months of offer left and sports remains off for five months you’ll still have five months discount remaining.

So what happens in this scenario: You are in contract until Jan '21 and you pause your subscription for 3 of the 10 months. Does this mean there's 7 months remaining payments until Jan '21, or does pausing it actually mean the time running on the contract pauses and therefore your contract end date gets pushed back by 3 months? I.e. Sky collect the value of the contract regardless, regardless if the key sporting events will be shown in that new timeframe or not.

Contract length stays the same as does your discount from what I can see.

This sounds quite fair, but should be automatically applied. From the way you describe it you have to actually ring up to tell them "Why, yes, I would like to not pay for re-runs, and keep to my existing contract length", rather than "Why no, I want you to assume I still want to pay full whack for re-runs, and keep to my existing contract length, same as if I'd rung you up to ask for the free pause".
