*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Ugh, so my current discounts have expired and, despite them claiming they've applied some new ones for another year, my bill has jumped to £80 with a further rise to £85 due in April.

This is JUST for TV - I have two mini boxes and Sports & Movies.

Just spoken to them to start the "discount dance" again and they said their systems were down and have scheduled a call-back to discuss my "offers".
Anyone have any ideas or tips for getting a decent discount and what I should realistically expect? Do I have to call their bluff by rejecting offers or asking to cancel etc etc?
Hate this rubbish every 18 months.

What has it jumped up from if you don't mind me asking? (my deal runs out in May)

No longer with Sky, Ended this morning.

Had no others offers through other than the 1 phone call and letter.

I took the dish down today (had Scaffolding for soffits to be done as dish was on the rear above the new conservator) Sky boxes ready to be sent.

I assume this is all Sky Q?

£68. Had already crept up a few quid over the last 18 months with general price rises but now jumping up another £12 to £80. Even that's with these new "offers", full price would be closer to £100.

I imagine this routing haggling is going to get harder. All businesses are facing higher operating costs due to general increases in things like energy etc which is obviously squeezing their margins so they're less inclined to offer good deals.
Of course this is just when customers like us are all trying to find ways to save money in preparation for the onslaught that's coming in April.

It's more the principle of the increase than anything else. Even an extra £12 becomes kind of insignificant when I consider that energy and the new social care tax alone are going to cost me over £200 a month more from April.

Been without sky now for 3 weeks and can’t say I’ve missed it. Had a few offers through the post but all similar to what was offered before I left, going to return the box on Monday and just be done with them for tv. They have still applied my bb discount which was applied if I took the tv offer aswell so getting a great deal on that.

Well, this is what happens when you live in economic dystopia. Their profits won't fall that is for sure. Any rises in their costs will be picked up by the customer.

Sky phoned yesterday evening - Offered me the same deal as before - UHD, Full Sports and signature package (inc Netflix) for £39.00.
Though they were going to offer something special.

Also offered broadband for £32 (150/30) or £42 for 500.

I'm going to cancel when my contract ends on the 14th March, increasing cost of living means I can do without the luxury of Sky.

Do I contact them before my contract expires or when it expires?

IIRC you need to give them a months notice.

I'm ending mine in May after the football finishes, might re-up in August depending on circumstances and cost. We'll see. I can easily do without it.

Yeah, read about the 31 days notice but wasn't sure if that was 31 days from the end of the contract or once it had ended. Just messaged them so I'll see what they say.

Yeah, was far easier to justify the cost of Sky during lockdown and while energy costs were much lower. Cutting my sky bill basically pays for the increase in my monthly energy bill, at least until they shaft us in October.

Ther cumulative effects of 4 decades of extreme right wind Capitalism are really being felt now - a lot worse is to come.

I only signed up last month and the price is already going up. Going to phone up and see if they can do anything about it.
Wow, that is criminal. I said it earlier in this thread you should be immune if your contract is less than 12 months old.

Edit: or I may have said it on the money saving expert thread about this same subject. Can't remember which.

You should be immune to rises for the first 90 days I believe. Also check the wording of any offer you have. If your offer states 'X for £y per month then your discount will increase to match the price. However, if your offer is '£x off per month' then the price will rise and you'll still get your discount of X off per month. It's possible you may need to check your original email for this though.

It's just 31 days notice, you can give that notice 31 days before your contract is due to expire (I just did so with mine).

LOL. The world of the automated mail delivery.

Email 1. Thanks for being a loyal Sky customer (22yrs) Take a look at the Sky VIP offers that are waiting for you! (usual tat)
Email 2. We see that your contract is coming to and end (May) so we're offering a special deal!! £2 discount on HD and Sky Signature. (No deal at all as that's already in place.)
Email 3. Your subscriptions are changing HD and Sky Signature are increasing by £1 from April 1st. (What they give with one hand, they take with the other.)

Unless I can pry a better deal out of them I think we are done. (Do I have to give them a months notice? I will be out of contract anyway, come early May) Is there any merit is ringing retention and bartering for better deal or are those days gone?

I'm just talking to them now to cancel. Barely watch it now, it's basically a Friends screensaver for my TV, and F1. That's it. It's way too expensive for what it is given 90% of my viewing is done on Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime. The fact they think they can increase prices the way they have is hilarious, the quality gets worse and they add nothing new. I also find it ridiculous that you they are still charging me for HD!
