*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Rang up to see if there is any faster internet available at all - currently getting 40Mb - and apparently they have a faster line at around 70mb, but will cost me 3 quid more a month. So going from 25/mo to 28/mo. It's expensive I think, but I have 12 mo left on my minimum term currently and don't want to wait another year to get anything faster. NOW for example offering same 70mb speed at 20/mo, with free calls. But I don't think I'm patient enough.

Anyway the kind chap on the phone then started trying to flog Sky glass. My current TV is about 8 years old, and 48", so the UHD 55" glass would be a nice upgrade. Would effectively be looking at a cost increase from 59/mo to 71.50/mo.

Anyone made the leap to glass and can vouch for if it's worth another 12 a month? I can't say I'm desperate for UHD and the bigger screen, but would be a nice to have. I said to leave notes on my account and I'll call back if I want to go for it.

As much as it pains me to say it, I don’t think it’s stable at the moment. Heard lots of people still having trouble. Have a read through the long thread on AVF. https://www.avforums.com/threads/sky-glass.2381264/

The general opinion is, SKY Glass is crap.

20 hours waiting to get through to someone via their messaging system since Monday and an hour on the phone. Yet to speak to anyone.

Edit: Finally through.

Finally got hold of someone, I pay £56 a month now for TV, for everything. They offered £64 a month without Cinema, Kids or Multiscreen...madness that they thought that seemed like a good deal. Told them to set my contract not to renew. I'll just get NOW TV for F1 as that's all I wanted it for anyway now.

They're living in a dream world, £8 P/M more than you were already paying but without Cinema, Kids, and Multiscreen.

I just dumped their BB, they wanted £28 P/M for 128 months, hopped on to Nowtv (yes I know same company really) for £20 P/M for 12 months (it goes up to £43 P/M after that!) - came back with £22 P/M offer for 18 months, no thanks!

My SKY ends in May, i'm done with it. The prices are ludicrous.

My recent sky annual joy experience:

Was £34 for Multiroom (2 rooms), UHD, entertainment/box sets / netflix premium. No Broadband

Renewal: £51

Cancelled, didn't even have to pay the 30 days notice, immediate refund, usually they ring back with a decent offer but the only call Ive had was just to ask why I cancelled.

New solution: Currently testing a trial of NowTV, and going to test IPTV. NowTV lets me pay £5 a month to never see an advert, not saying it's perfect but a few days in we aren't missing anything.

I don't think I could even change ISP if I wanted to since the phone number is VoIP and locked in with Sky. Broadband & Talk is £62 on my bill. Overall though I cannot give any complaints about Sky for Fiber.

Sky Cinema is also on my bill which is mainly my most viewed, £11. Sky Sports for Golf and F1, £23. Sky Signature £26. As well as BT Sports £26. I had to get BT Sports recently to see the MotoGP season. Then Sky HD is £7 which you think that would be standard. You'd think that would be for Ultra HD.

We were paying £38/month for classic Sky TV (TV with HD, all entertainment but no box sets, movies or sports.)

It's going up another £2 month from April

Sky Signature +£1
Sky HD +£1

July 2020 it was £26/month for the same package and i'm sure in 2018 it was £25.

What are other paying for the standard TV package? If we cancel Sky, can the box still be used with the Sky menu, but certain channels not be accessed like comedy central? It's great having the Sky guide as hate looking through menus on smart tvs, now tv, netflix etc. We usually just turn on the TV and watch whatever is on at the time. If nothing good is on, we turn off and have music on instead. £40 for comedy central and one other comedy channel is pushing it a bit

Yes you can use the SKY box for all the freesat channels I think so anything like BBC1, ITV etc. Especially as your not SKY Q which has a different device on the dish if i remember correctly.

Thanks.

Do you know if there is a way to still use the sky TV guide to access other channels? e.g. Comedy Central and ComedyXtra. Failing that to access these channels with NowTV.

It's really the ease and use for many years of the Sky TV guide that we'll miss. If other channels work through other provides but on the Sky TV guide, this would be perfect. I expect that a no though

yes to a full guide but no as all the subscription channels will be unavailable. NowTV uses internet to get the channels showing, so like a firestick/console with the app installed but not sure if they have a proper tv guide as thought it was all like a netflix reel - on demand programs.

That's the thing, we can get as much content as we like with firesticks / on laptops and computers but the classic Sky guide is just easy to turn on and select channels.
TV for us it just something to watch quickly whilst we have dinner or listen to in the background. Trying to find programs on apps is just faff. This happened when we went to my aunties, she has a firestick or chromecast or something and by the time I found the program I was looking for I got bored and went back into the kitchen for a beer and listened to music instead :D

A traditonal fast TV guide can't be beaten really. If you there was a really good TV guide similar to Sky but that you could register for X service to view the channel, that would be perfect

Yeha I hear you, I mean the Freesat boxes are £199 which although is a one off cost, isn't exactly cheap. Their tv guide isn't as easy, quick to use, although im basing it on a very old box not the new ones.

What's the best number to give Sky a ring on? Is there a direct number to talk to retention, rather than going all round the houses and still end up just talking to some junior fronting the desk.
