*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Seen so many people cancel. Wonder what figures look like in terms of customers who have left. Surely they can't carry on this way!?
People don't tend to log-on to forums and say "I've just renewed" - the number of leaving customers is greatly skewed.
Under no illusion there will be a drop off, but won't be as significant as maybe a forum like this might indicate.

Falling but not collapsing.

That time again, we've been paying
Sky Signature - £34
Sky HD - £9
Total - £43

Sky+ box

I called Sky cancellations and can get the same deal for £26/month.
I ordered a Roku Express for £30 which arrives tomorrow.
We mainly watch Comedy central and some documentaries like Blue Planet. Paramount+ is £6.99 a month and is available on the Roku by the sounds of it. Is there another subscription to cover some good documentary channels? I expect live pause and record will not be available on the Roku

Other options are Sky glass, total £40/month total for 43" TV or £45/month total for 55". Sky stream is £26-29 / month ... but expect these will shoot up in cost as my current sky package did - from £28/month in July 2021 to £43/month now.

I didnt cancel Sky yet, just weighing up the options.

Got the email the other day saying they were putting my internet and TV up £8 in total, which is a 20% increase on my £39 per month bill.

Think i'll probs look at canning TV and broadband and just move over to a BB only supplier unless they can keep my price the same.

To me it seems companies hike prices for ‘VIP’ customers to make up for general losses / lost customers.
If anything they want to be trying to keep their customers by offering cheaper contracts or more services.
Instead we have to ring up to cancel to get a £15-£20 saving a month on our current deal.
If i had been offered Sky glass for the same price im paying now, I would have probably stayed around for another 2 years. “Wow, thats a good deal, thanks for letting me know”
Instead the monthly orices goes up every 6 months.

Im testing a Roku box today and if its good i’ll fully leave Sky and go individual streaming subscriptions only. If we dont like it, probably take the saving on our current Sky signature and hd package on our old Sky hd box but see if we can tie in the price for 2 years. As in we want written terms its not going up in a few months.

Is there a direct link to online chat to try and get a deal through cancelation?
The only options I am seeing is to call or use Facebook Messenger, which I don't have.

We have a smart TV which has all the main streaming apps on it. Tbh we never watch live TV apart from The Chase (lol), everything else we watch is on catchup. We would lose the Netflix as its included with Sky but we can just use my partners parents as they have one included wuth their Sky package (UHD too).

I'm not really seeing any positives really to keeping Sky aside from convenience. Their UI and EPG is really good but it only saves a couple remote presses over going into an app.

I've seen some BB offers for around £21-£23 pm which would save us around £26-£27 pm if we binned Sky and BB once the price goes up. We don't actually pay that much for our total subscription anyway and I'd be tempted to keep it if they could keep us on the same price but it does just feel like an unneeded luxury at this point.

Well, I tried the Roku device and streaming services via apps. Hated it, as did my girlfriend.
When we do watch TV, usually a bit in the morning at weekends and dinner time most nights we dont know what to watch so love having the convenience of a good TV guide - Sky.
Turn it on, scroll a few pages and pick anything, if adverts are on we just watch something else or turn it off. Usually comedy central or documentary channels.

If we want to watch a specific movie we have a WD TV live and can watch anything, also have Netflix, Amazon prime and Spotify so sometimes we turn off the TV and listen to music instead from a random playlist.

With streaming services I get theyre cheaper but you sort of need to find what you want to watch if you're not sure which can take 10 minutes. That time I want to spend eating my dinner with whatever is available from the TV guide/menu.
If there was a guide with channels merged into one and the ability to easily pause and rewind that would be much better for us.

I called Sky and renewed for 18 months on £26/month contract for Sky Signature & Sky HD. I guess it'll go up a few quid in April 24. The contract ends 3rd December 2024

Broadband wise I pay £30 for 500Mbps/500Mbps with HyperOptic.
Phone im with EE for £22.87 for 150GB data, 5G all calls and text and 1 smart benefit (EU roaming)

Sky cant match either

Lol sky just told me they will be putting my package up from £39.50 to £56.50 in July and then £89 in Aug. Going to see what retentions are offering.

Has anyone got rid of their fixed home broadband and tried out something like the Three 4G hubs? I've get great 4G speeds all around the house and they are only £20 per month so are cheaper than every other option out there for a faster connection. I don't game or anything so not worried about latencies etc. Anything I should be mindful of if I go that route?

Good to test it out for the 14 day trial at least, even cheaper over the term to pick up your own router on the used market and go the SIM only route. I've been using 5G as my main BB for several years now and have had a excellent experience, with virtually no downtime, very fast speeds, and decent latency. :)

There is a thread in the network forum with loads more info in it.

I did think about getting my own router but the cheapest unlimited SIM I could find was £16pm with Smarty so would take some time to break even when Three is only £20 pm and you have no hardware cost.

You can pick up good deals on Three (3 UK) SIM's averaging between £9-11 per month for Unlimited Data, or Unlimited everything. Again best take it to the appropriate thread though. :)

Very hard to shift Sky if your that conditioned to that way of consuming content. At least you gave it a try.
