*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Very hard to shift Sky if your that conditioned to that way of consuming content. At least you gave it a try.
The guides just work for many people. You can even download a Sky style UI for different streaming boxes. I trued one years ago. It did work but was glitchy as hell with content no populating properly.

I forget the name of the service/device but think it was just a skin you applied.

Well, I tried the Roku device and streaming services via apps. Hated it, as did my girlfriend.
When we do watch TV, usually a bit in the morning at weekends and dinner time most nights we dont know what to watch so love having the convenience of a good TV guide - Sky.
Turn it on, scroll a few pages and pick anything, if adverts are on we just watch something else or turn it off. Usually comedy central or documentary channels.

If we want to watch a specific movie we have a WD TV live and can watch anything, also have Netflix, Amazon prime and Spotify so sometimes we turn off the TV and listen to music instead from a random playlist.

With streaming services I get theyre cheaper but you sort of need to find what you want to watch if you're not sure which can take 10 minutes. That time I want to spend eating my dinner with whatever is available from the TV guide/menu.
If there was a guide with channels merged into one and the ability to easily pause and rewind that would be much better for us.

I called Sky and renewed for 18 months on £26/month contract for Sky Signature & Sky HD. I guess it'll go up a few quid in April 24. The contract ends 3rd December 2024

Broadband wise I pay £30 for 500Mbps/500Mbps with HyperOptic.
Phone im with EE for £22.87 for 150GB data, 5G all calls and text and 1 smart benefit (EU roaming)

Sky cant match either
You can browse channels in a freeview box or Freesat, there’s no requirement to have a sky box to do that.

I know, my parents have freeview. Its ok but lacking speed populating and updating channel viewings. Still, very good for free.
I guess a combination of freeview/freesat with subscription stream channs is the ideal thing - which is Sky. There UI just works really well and probably why it has hardly changed since the mid 90s!
I remember watching Sky at my cousins house in the mid-late 90s, the classic blue and yellow interface

So happy with my deal saving of £23 per month so happy :p

Sky Signature £14.00
Netflix £1.00
Sky HD £0.00
Broadband £17.50
Thats less than what I pay now for the same - I'd be more than happy to keep my Sky sub if I could get that deal.

My current deal is:
Sky Signature £19.50
HD £0
Netflix £0
Broadband £20

The cancellation request went in yesterday anyway so will see if I get any phone calls with better deals.

Does Sky glass and Sky stream keep the same EPG and UI?

Glass half interested me but imagine the TV is somewhat locked down specifically for Sky.
It's broadly similar, yes. The TV does have all the apps and has a free view aerial connector as well and is a separate payment to your sky sub.

Thanks. Guess it was easier just renewing TV.

@Pinball-Fantasies this is a cracking deal for Sky signature and Sky HD.

Sky Signature £14.00
Netflix £1.00
Sky HD £0.00
Broadband £17.50

Guess its the broadband that makes it cheaper. Unfortunately Sky internet has been useless in the past for us and Sky fibre I imagine isnt much better. £30/month for 145Mb/s with 28-29Mb/s upload, shockingly bad IMO as we're paying £30/month now for Hyperoptic 500/500

I think that didnt come out until early 2000s. I was a bit older then (16 or 17)
Used to love going to my cousins (a 250 mile journey) to watch Sky. Used to sit watching Sky sports for hours with beers in the 'Sky room' good times. Then it was back home to parents for channels 1 -5 :/

Our contract expired 8th June and didnt get a notice from Sky that they were increasing my plan from a discounted £51 up to £106!!!

CS managed to reduce that to £82 (lol) and cancelations could only get high £70's so its a bye bye from me, allegedly a VIP customer of 7 years.

How they expect people to pay such ludicrous sums for TV in such tough times is utterly repulsive. I was a mug clearly paying £51 previously!

Anyone come accross any decent deals in June?

Since the first letter dropped through the door, we've since had at least one more plus an email offering exactly the same deal:

Signature £21
Ultra HD £2
HD £4
Multiscreen £7
Cinema £6
Sports £16
Kids £3
Admin fee £10

Mrs Bravo said the other day how much better it is using the apps on the TV to watch what we used to record on Sky, mainly because the Sky recordings were always in such a muddled order.
We won't be returning unless F1 TV stops working for me.

Have they separated out Multiscreen from UHD now?

I can get VM for £85, with 1 Gb broadband (which would be backup only as I have proper FTTP), an O2 SIM (not keen on their service but it works I guess) and full TV including sports/cinema. I currently pay £43 a month to EE which includes BT Sport via Apple TV. But I don't get Sky Sports in UHD, that's an extra £7 and I don't think the Netflix you get with VM is UHD either.

Both has pros and cons, but I guess VM does give me backup internet.

It's like they're reading my posts on here, they just rang offering:

Signature £19
Sports £17
HD £4
UHD £2
Netflix £6
18 month contract
£48

Just ordered with VM:

Ultimate Volt
O2 unlimited data/roaming etc
1 Gb broadband (to be used as a backup to my main FTTP 900 connection)
All TV packages including Sky Sports in HD, BT Sports in UHD
Netflix Standard

£155 Amazon voucher.
£200 bill credit.

I can add Sky Sports UHD for £4 a month from memory, and upgrade Netflix if I want for a fiver.

Makes it £65 a month, not including CPI/RPI increases.

Previously I was paying EE £43 a month for my SIM and BT Sport on the big screen, plus £63 to to Sky for all TV/Sport. EE really struggled to find me a better deal as I'm on an old grandfathered SIM with free roaming and BT big screen for £5 + VAT instead of £10 + VAT.

After 18 months I'll likely go back to Sky as a new customer and drop the VM broadband to their cheapest as a backup.
