*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Thanks :)

Edit:
How do I get to speak to someone in the UK?
Rang Sky - no offers available what so ever (despite having various issue at the beginning of the contract).
Ringing to cancel it tomorrow and see what else they say.

Ringing to cancel will get you through to someone in the UK, they will also more than likely offer you some kind of deal.

I cancelled yesterday, was offered £15 pcm off but went through with the cancellation as we rarely watch TV and when we do it tends to be freeview channels anyway.

Just be careful if you have your line rental and BB with them as they managed to cancel that as well when I asked to remove the TV package. Then they said I can't resign with Sky for 12 months and if someone at the address signs up for Sky it wil lget marked as legal fraud.
Guessing that means I won't get a chance for the 50% off then!

I'm now watching HD Freeview via my Samsung PVR box I bought from ebay.

Plenty of channels and have a perfect signal from the aerial on my roof. Box has a 500GB HD so can record lots of TV and it's a smart box connected to my Tesco BB, so can get iplayer, 4oD, Youtube ect..

Only cost is the £17.40 a month to Tesco for the unlimited 12MB/s connection, which includes the phone line rental.

Don't think i'll ever go back to Sky/Virgin for what I currently get for just over £17.

So what happens if you move out and the next owner gets Sky at that address in this 12 month limit, surely thats not right.

what a load of crap

i cancelled my in laws sky and then signed up 3 days later under mother in laws name instead of father in laws, still fine to this day, not been arrested for fraud.

i cancelled a mates too and signed up in his brothers name at the same address, no issues.

they tell you that crap to scare you into staying with them it's a scare tactic.

you would have to be a moron to believe a sales person. i would never ever pay anything more than 50% of the RRP for sky, because that is the deal new customers get. same goes for virgin media, cancel and sign up again is what i do every year.

I'm about to move house. What's the best route to go to reduce the overall cost of Sky? I can't seem to get the HD pack without the family pack, too. Is that right?

At the moment I have Variety, Sports, HD and broadband for about 55 a month.

The more I read this I think sod you Sky as you're paying less for more. Why should we have to chase the deals.

Just phoned up to cancel my Sky sub.. Pay £71 just for TV no BB etc and it's way too much..

Good guy on the phone and kept telling me how they value loyal customers like us who have been with them for over 13 years now, to which I said then how come new subscribers get better deals than long time customers :)

Most he could offer was 20% off for 8 months or to consider cutting down my packages. Shame after all this time, but it's gone now and just waiting for the cut off date on the 11th September..

I'm only at 6 years, but it's so true.

I'll cancel once I get my moving date and then just port the broadband and then sack that off too for something else.

Been watching NowTV over the weekend, which I know is Sky, but it could do until I get a new Smart TV

In addition to price, those who have been with Sky for some time, paying their full subscription, are also getting a very different experience to new customers in terms of hardware (older interfaces, less storage, no catch-up, no wi-fi etc.). There should be something in place to 'maintain' the hardware of paying customers without them having to seek upgrades or threaten to cancel, at the very least.

I'm an existing customer (6 years) and I get wifi and catch-up

I'm thinking fundamentally of those who received their boxes on day 1 and haven't been offered any kind of upgrade. I guess there will be paying customers still on the white non-HD boxes.

If you've cancelled don't be surprised if you get a phone call or email (or both) for 35% off. That's what happened to me (had the small spiel about being a loyal customer).

loyalty in the tv sub market doesn't count for anything.

new customers get the best deals, it's the exact same in the phone market.

they don't offer loyal customers better deals because well they are loyal no need to, the sheep will continue to pay full price out of loyalty so why offer them better deals?

to get the best deal, cancel when your contract runs out and switch to VM or sign up to sky again under your partners name, or anyone who will let you use their name for a sub.

all you need to do is change the person who is the subscriber, you can continue to use all the same details otherwise, address, same bank details, etc.

Do they then supply all new hardware, boxed etc or do you say you have that already?

You get new items because you are a "new" customer. The boxes are brought out fairly regularly so if you do not have a <18mo old box you wont be on the latest model, so would want a new one anyway.:)

I was surprised the new boxes only has WPS WiFi. I was expecting you could manually setup your own settings.
