*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Currently have a 50% offer showing on my old account which I can still log in to, after cancelling a couple of months ago.

Quite happy with freesat and a three 10gb mifi rolling monthly contract for my internet @ £16 per month. Not to mention it is 4x faster than my sky broadband was and even more when I get 4g.

Saved a fortune on TV, internet and telecoms moving to three's rolling 1 month contracts plus no more tie-ins.

Spending the savings on expanding my bluray collection and still have change.

I cancelled my Sky account 6 months ago. I had been a customer for 20 years but loyalty counts for nothing, so no discounts offered. I switched to BT YouView and for £5 a month I got a superb, free PVR and access to many download options for movies, box-sets etc. I am pleased with BT and I don't miss Sky. I couldn't justify £33 just for the sake of watching about 5 Sky exclusive programmes a week and also having to pay a premium for HD - my biggest gripe!

Great to hear, I'm about to do it. Looking at now TV to cover Sky Atlantic content such as boardwalk empire.

Beyond that don't car.

Thinking about cancelling my HD package tbh, I never realised that half of the programs they show on those channels are not HD at all. Silly me for assuming, I suppose.

If you have sports and movies you'll lose the HD on them too.

Recently cancelled Sky and got a call back for 50% off and a free 2TB box (needed another box, one of the reasons for cancelling). I took the offer and once it became active I noticed our movies and sports weren't in HD anymore. I called them to query and they claimed that was how they achieved the lower price.

Fortunately I'm a stickler for detail and outlined the exact package, HD included, several times with confirmation when I was given the 50% offer. They tried to give me HD for £5 a month first, I refused. They then tried a discount making it £2 a month (probably what they'll offer you when you try to cancel it). I refused this though because I'd already agreed a set price on the phone to include HD (dropped mention of verbal contract) and hey ho, I got it for 'nothing' as I had already agreed. As much as I hate dealing with Sky and how underhand they are I like F1 too much. :(

I don't have movies or sports, just the entertainment+ with HD on top. I was looking through the EPG on Sunday I think it was, there were THREE HD programs for the whole day, and that was across the entire Documentaries section. I'm fine with it if there's simply not enough HD content yet but it feels simply as though they're not even trying with it.

I also never realized how much they repeat things, I'm used to it from Freeview but Sky seem to repeat things three times a day, then the next day, then later in the week too! I thought that's what the +1 channels were for. :(

I will have to wait until my subscription is up in 2015 but unless things change before then I won't be renewing.

I cancelled 2 months ago, been without it a month. logged in like someone said saw the 50% deal, they offered me that when i wanted to cancel.

Asked how much everything except the movies was, and i wanted HD as well, he said £34 something, i said still too much, he comes back few mins later, £28.25, i said il take that, he says thats 60% off deal.

Quite pleased really.

Just cancelled mine today, off to play with Virgins TiVo, but mainly due to the much faster internet without costing me more.
But as install for virgin is 2 weeks before the sky cancelation, will they have issues getting my phone line swapped (I asked for a new number, but presume they use the existing lines for phone)?

If you've asked for a new number there won't be any 'swapping' of the phone lines. The Virgin 'Engineer' will setup your TIVO, broadband and phone line and Sky's service will be active for 2 weeks on the BT line.

Seems my 50% to come back just got a bit better....had email to come back offering 60% off any package and £100 credited to my account too.

Shame I am not in a position to take them up on the offer until January 2015....wonder what the offer will be by then?

I'm tempted to give sky a second chance. Kept all my begging emails from them as leverage.

Especially the one for a free 1tb sky box.

Just cancelled my package which over the last few years had gone up to £75 a month (£900 a year for TV!).

Hoping to get a decent offer in my on-line account however I'm also trying to purchase a house so depending on how that goes I may not have TV for a while (property needs gutting!).

Is BT + Infinity the best choice for Sport? Champions League is moving to BT Sport next year so very tempted to sign up for BT and pay for the sky sports package.

Looking at going back at some point, keep getting 50% off codes, just need my house finished so I can move in! :p

Just checked Bt and Fibre won't be running until some point next year (between Jan & June :()
