*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

I have just cancelled via Chat. What options do I have now? I was going to just sign up again using the wife's name and go through Quidco but something the guy said has got me spooked:

Should either you or anyone else in your household wish to rejoin sky within the next 12 months you would need to re activate this account only as you would not be able to open an new account and would not qualify for any new customer offers

I am guessing the only option I have is to wait and see if they call and give me a 50% off offer like some of you have got?

Just told him what I was there for and he went with it. He didn't offer me a very good deal to stay so maybe I should have called!! :p

On Live chat atm
Don't know how many times I have to say "I just want to cancel" lol
been offered 20% no thanks

Still on going

50% offer should appear in MySky just after they cut you off.

I've been using Nowtv since 14th July which is when I cancelled Sky satellite and still very happy. Still paying for sky entertainment and sky movies but amazed at how much stuff we watch that isn't on Sky at all. By far the most watched for us is BBC iplayer.

Don't forget for those that are switching if you're only watching ondemand services you don't need a tv licence. I'm sure that'll change at some point but for now at least you can save yourself £12.12(?) a month.

I am still on chat with them!!! thats coming up to an hour, i've simply said unless I get a new box and the package at new customer rates I want to leave but they keep asking stupid bloody questions

*edit* an hour later I have just cancelled tv! Have managed to get the broadband free by paying them line rental, will see what happens when its terminated as to wether I get any discount voucher, been with them 10 years now.

I've got 3 months free now tv movies, will sign up for the entertainment pack when my tv gets cancelled and go from there, either that or get the wife to sign up as new customer for tv :)

I did the same, started a chat at lunch time and an hour and twenty just put an end to it and said just cancel it. I said I'd be signing up again if they couldn't provide new box and match my current sub, didn't batter an eye lid. I might not even do that as I only really use it for the sports. It's a shame you can't get a more reasonable offer on the sports passes on Now TV as I'd happily do that (an F1 race weekend would require 2 passes which would be £13/race weekend * 20).

My lovely flatmate pretty much upped and went to China without telling anyone. He took out a Sky package in his name about 3 months ago and he is ignoring all messages from me and the landlord. I imagine he isn't paying it either, can I just call up and get it disconnected? I only need an internet package, I don't watch TV.

I doubt you can do much unless you pretend to be him but you will need to know the security details he used when setting it up, also I'm guessing they will want the remaining money to cancel it, if its nothing to do with you just unplug it all and put it in his room for when the bailliffs come

Just spoke to them, they can't cancel it until unless it's directly from him (I wouldn't know his security questions anyway). They said if he stops paying, they will cancel it but I work from home a lot so I don't really fancy it just cutting off.

I guess I'll have to wait until that day.

Jesus trying to cancel on chat is just as hard as on the phone!

Tell me about it!

My +HD box developed an intermittent fault and no way was I going to buy a new one given I'd been with Sky 9 years (whatever difference that makes!) so it was either they give me a new box or I cancel subscription as it's barely worthwhile having it anyway.

That stupid chat had me talking to some random for an hour whereby the best she could offer me was £30 call out charge and a refurbed box (no warranty).

I then phoned Sky and got straight through to cancellations whereby I just told the guy straight out about my previously wasted hour and that "either I get a new box or I would give notification to cancel my subscription now". 10 minutes it was all sorted, a brand new 500gig box (wifi type) plus they discounted my package by £15 per month for a year (for no apparent reason!) and that included free installation.

Sky as a company confuse me no end as their policy (for the most part) appears to be 'do anything to keep the customer'.

Not my best effort though: 3 years ago I threatened to cancel and I got a new +HD box and installation of a new dish as the previous one was rusting and in my way.
