*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

I paid a fair whack (probably around £150-£200) for the FreeSat box which is the Humax HDR-1000S.

It's still just as 'cutting edge' as any Sky box. 1TB of HDD space, I can record series, rewind, pause, all the usual stuff. It's hooked up to my wifi and will stream movies from my PC/NAS, has apps for YouTube, BBC iplayer etc. There are occasional firmware updates which push through automatically.

I think the FreeSat boxes hold their value quite well so wouldn't be a massive hit if you went back to Sky in the future.

Jez's deal pees all over anything "free".

He gets sky atlantic, etc. Which you don't. He gets to download shows he's missed or forgot to record. He has access to more content.

The software and UI of sky is second to none. It's the easiest system to use on the planet.

I don't have sky as i'm on VM but when I did it was so easy to use and so easy to set up. You can control everything from the phone app. Set up recordings easier than anything. It shows you alternate times so you can set all recording for the late night runs 2am-4am.

Jez knows how to play the game. New customers get the best deals. The only thing he is missing out on is quidco cashback. Instead he gets a pre-paid £50 card.

Go for quidco cashback in future it can be as high as £200 depending on if they have a special deal going on at the time but it depends on you taking other services like their phone and broadband, etc.

The only thing better than sky's system is VM's broadband. I have the fancy Tivo box and all the gubbins and yeah it's good a lot better than what they have had in the past but still leagues away from sky's system. VM's broadband though is second to none. It's about 20 times faster for me than sky's system in my area.

TBH though I don't watch much live tv so in future I may revert to solely downloads and streaming services (prime, etc). The only thing I miss on my current package is live sports but then your paying HUGE money and half the games aren't ones I'm interested in or they are on the other sports package (sky vs BT). To have both is quite a lot of money then you have premier sports and ESPN.

IMO Jez's deal is the best one to be on if your not into sports paying round £6 a month for the easiest system to use, free new boxes, etc that will always be up to date.

By using your parents sky go your not getting proper HD, your limited to content and channels. IIRC it's mainly just for movies and sports nothing else apart from a handful of random channels. It's good for when your say at the gym and use their free wi-fi to watch the game whilst you jog away on the treadmill on your tablet in front of you.

But if you like quality then sky go's resolution and bit rate is awful on a large screen tv like my 50" panny plasma.

The main reason i didnt get quidco last time was that i wasnt sure on the compatibility with it and a F&F code (which reduces the rental by half to that £16.50), and also iirc it relied on other services.

Ive got my VDSL elsewhere, and i really do not want to mix the services as it causes disruption with being a new TV customer every year :)

Keep your TV seperate but quidco stacks with F and F discounts.

You might get £75 cashback which is a £25 bonus on the pre-paid card. It won't be as big as getting the full set from them though but I understand you want to keep your number, etc and no down time.

Compare both next time round see if cashback beats the £50 card.

I definitely will do that now that i know it stacks ok :)

With the FTTC its too risky, id rather keep that service separate and unchanged. For example right now my cabinet has been out of capacity for months and months with a resolution date ages away which keeps moving back, if i lost my slot i wouldnt be able to re-order.

So we're moving. Rang Sky and the outcome is that it'll cost us £25 and there are no deals.

I ******* hate this.

In all honesty, i'm considering just illegally downloading HD versions and/or streaming favourite shows. Surely these companies want to avoid this?

They do but Customer Churn is down to its lowest level in about five years and Sky have actually gained customers every quarter for about the same period. Sky don't feel they have to throw offers at customers to stay when for every customer than leaves they get two joining. (much simplified, I don't believe that's actually the ratio but you get the drift)

It's annoying because we have the old HD package with F1 HD.. So even if we decided to cancel and set up as a new customer, we'd have to pay extra for F1 HD. LAME.

What's even worse is that we can't get Virgin Media by the looks if it so it's not as if we can say "Oh, well we'll just a take a hit on a couple of channels".

I am looking to cancel sky phone, broadband and tv and switch phone and broadband to another provider. I do not have a contract with them any longer. Do I need to give Sky a month's notice (like before) and then subscribe phone and broadband to another provider or do I just switch and don't have to inform them to cancel.
- IE do i have to cancel then switch or is it automatic? I dont want to be paying for both at the same time.

I am also looking to cancel Sky TV too, having been paying 46+ for a non HD package, total rip off...as I don't use it anyway. Is it a month's notice too?

Thanks for any advice

Putting together a new bundle on the Sky website and it says one-off cost of £10 (for technician to come and setup the box etc). However, there is a £30 activation fee for the broadband and £20 for the landine!! Why doesn't this show on one off costs?!

My understanding is they are losing customers but it is hidden by nowtvs take up which is in the same figures.

On the illegal side, it is getting much harder the courts seem to be doing a good job nailing these sites down. Now the media companies need todo their bit and provide the right deals

Surely the best thing to do when moving house is to cancel (if you are out of contract) and then sign up for a nice fresh deal at the new property?

Because we would have about £60 worth of upfront fees and it would cost £73.65 for the first 6 months and £83.65 thereafter. We pay £86 currently and have F1 HD. Is it worth it?

Sure we could get £100 to spend somewhere i'm sure as well, being a new customer.

How on earth would it cost that much with a 50% off new customer deal plus quidco?

Unless F&F codes are not around any more? I hope they are

I'm in my cancellation period. When signing back up in partners name, how do you get round the website knowing you've already got sky? They seem to want a phone call which will no doubt negate any deals such as F&F, quidco etc.

Well thats no good for me :)
8 years with them on the top package and offered me the below.

I have been with them for 8 years for TV and even asked about moving all my phone , tv and internet services to them and they offered £66.
I must have the original HD box still as i had to get a connector box for on demand lol.
New customers can even get the 2tb box for free or a free 2nd box when theytake multi room whereas i was quoted £199 for it.
I have seen in another thread that somone got the same package as what i was quoted but for £49 so i think i will hold out.
I dont mind paying for what i think is a fair price.
Just had the same problem with Amazon Prime now £59 for new customers after i have renewed last month at £79.
I asked if they would match it or could i cancel the service and get a refund and pay for what i have used since the renewal.
Got an email today saying they had cancelled Prime but no mention of any of the cost or refund etc so emailed them back complaining about the lack of information that i requested in the 1st place and they said a full refund had been issued for the £79 and apologised and sent me the link to renew at £59

What does the current F&F code get you these days? I have just exchanged on a new house and will be moving next week :)

If somebody has a code going, i would be grateful :) I did have a 60% off plus £100 onto my account until last week, its now changed to 50% only. Can I do better with F+F?

Thanks :)
