I know. It's amusing.

You can pay for electric or move your usage to get paid for using your electric. This is a reward from the NG as they analyse usage patterns and find a level of incentive that means they can smooth the demand overall and benefit everybody.

Octopus specifically say your not allowed on that outgoing with Go.

Are you as critical to him for using a loophole error on Octopuss' fault as you are people here who do specifically what Octopus say to do in regards load shifting?

Yes.......ive never read anywhere that Octopus states moving OFF PEAK usage to PEAK usage, especially as they are asking people to SHIFT PEAK usage. So no your not doing specifically what octopus says

Except it's obvious some people purposely put their ovens on, dishwasher on etc... to artificially boost their production to exploit the system. Especially if you have batteries and solar you can actually take the **** as a result. I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm just saying it's a broken system. Ordinarily I wouldn't have charged my batteries that early in the morning - I had no need to. But I did to try and benefit from the system. As a result I've ended up in profit - at 9am I was producing enough solar that I didn't need to have done that artificial charging.

Personally I think you should be rewarded for just not using energy during those times, regardless of what your historic use is like. The whole point of this is to supposedly help the grid - from a green energy perspective, why should we exploit NG import which may or may not be from sustainable sources? It just feels a little badly thought out to me.

Oh I don't blame the people for 1 minute. I did the same - I charged my solar batteries. I just think it's a stupid system - it encourages people to exploit the system and that's what I don't like about it. I feel a bit guilty about it, as a previous session I used 0 energy for basically 3/4 days on the trot, and got 0 rewards for it. Ok, I get 15p per kWh exported, but still it feels a bit disingenuous.

Yep when I actually put the effort into making sure I used basically 0 I got nothing as well.

Instead, turn on all the things a few hours before and the money flows in.

I wonder where the cash is coming from, NG may be paying for it, but how are NG getting the money?

It depends on how you take what they say, they dont specifically say to do x or y, just to not use energy in the session window and to move it elsewhere

Again, are you telling your mate he should be on the phone to Octopus as hes specifically doing something they SPECIFICALLY say you are not allowed.

Yep

NG took an easy approach using the already agreed formula they use for the energy market (non consumer) and applied it to the consumer market.
No thought on how once a few people thought about it they had left a MASSIVE flaw in their logic.

The odd thing is its probably still cheaper than the price a lot of the extra energy would be bought in at anyways. Its just going to the people as opposed to the generators.
I find it hard to cry a tear for them ;)

NG get the money same way as ever from the bill payers, via the energy companies.
But ofc its all a massive zero sum game*

Yes i told my mate it was wrong...... i cant force him to change it, same as i cant stop you guys gaming the system.

Thats right they say "dont use energy in the window" not switch energy from cheap windows to peak windows..... i mean the window was 1 hr...who uses 48kw's in 1 hour???? surely someone must think other than me, that its morally wrong???
