Sony XF90

Anyone got their gaming pc plugged into one of these TVs. What's it like to play games on?

i don't but rtings review states it's good for pc gaming. the nu8000 supports freesync though but isn't FALD so will have bleed issues, etc.

at 4k res i would prefer freesync but if i had to choose between bleed and freesync i would choose no freesync. plus i have a nvidia card anyway and it may not support freesync so another reason to go xf90.

you would need to go for the Q9 from samsung but then that is a lot more expensive.

tv's don't really make great monitors for competitive play anyway. i believe the xf90 can do up to 120hz though. so that is in it's favour.

Thanks sonny, I have an Nvidia card too. Not a competitive player, only play bf5 casually. Really into my RTS and RPG games so I should be fine with xf90.

if not playing competitive then you should be fine. saying that i have a mate who plays competitive on an XE90 no issues. he is blind as a bat though so needs the big screen.

how far you planning on sitting from it? ideally need to be around 4 foot away from a telly i'm 2 feet away from a 27 inch

Well I haven't even got the TV yet as I'm planning on getting it when I move house but will make sure it's a good distance. I have a wireless mouse so will get a wireless keyboard as well.

Yup, I use it exclusively tied to my PC. It's awesome! Input lag is low, unnoticeable in the usual games, and if you want it to be much lower you can game at 1080p 120hz and have a super responsive display. Visually, it is stunning, by far better than 99.9% of monitors I've seen (hence the move to TV). I think at this point though if I were to buy it again I probably would wait for the new models this year with HDMI 2.1 simply because then you get 4K 120 fps RGB 10bit & VRR (though nothing's really 100% atm) with those. Ofc, the new models will be more expensive so it's a question of if the new features are going to be worth the added cost. Really, the only complaint with the TV is the OS responsiveness of it, but even that is actually quite fine now outside of AVR use (then it's sketchier -> laggy).

Looks plenty sharp enough - there isn't a massive difference going from 1080P to 4K really. If you're gaming on a PC, the jump to 1080P,120 Hz is more noticeable :)

Thanks think when I get one..bloody ages yet.
I'll stick it to 1080p@120hz and enjoy the extra fluidity. Going to be of a difference compared to my 34" 3440x1440@60hz. I wonder what ones the most performance demanding?

1080p at 120hz is nothing

Resolution is far more demanding.

I game at 1440p and 144hz and came from 1080p. I have a mate who games at 4k too and only 60hz.

He struggles to hit 60hz on every game using a 1080ti. I do pretty well at 1440p 144hz with my 1080. For 1080p a 1070 is good enough to hit 120hz on most games.

Last daft question so whats going to look better when gaming on a pc:
my current lg 34" 3440x1440@60hz super wide monitor (no gysnc/freesync)
Sony xf90 55" 1080p@120hz

Higher FPS is generally trickier, as it requires more compute performance from the CPU - with higher resolution, you just get a quicker GPU, but for higher frame rate, you need not only a quick GPU, but a CPU as mentioned before

It's why the Xbox One X struggles with 1080P 60, as the CPU is often a bottleneck

So looking at my pc spec in my signature would you say I'll be okay with CPU and GPU demanding games at 1080p@120hz?
