Staples's 'Kashmir' Managers Chair

For those that like to lean back a lot I can recommend the Darcy : http://www.staples.co.uk/furniture-...ve-chairs/darcy-leather-faced-executive-chair

I have my feet up on my desk constantly and have the chair on full tilt, which has caused three previous chairs to break in a matter of weeks. I'm now six months down the line with this Darcy and there's no signs of any wear and tear at all and no additional creaks, groans or 'farts' from it. I did find the seat a little firm initially however but that was likely due to my posture. The addition of a cushion from downstairs sorted that out.

I might be a bit late, but I made a trip to Staples (in Chatham... urgh!) yesterday and the Gridblock was one of the chairs which made my shortlist, even though I went in expecting to buy a Kashmir, or one of the other more expensive chairs.

What actually put me off the Gridblock was the fact I thought it was a plastic finish. It certainly looks thin and plasticky. But then let's face it, the leather on all these chairs isn't going to be heavy duty.

In the end, after about half an hour of messing about and scratching my head, I settled on a black Giuseppe, currently priced at £100 as well. It's not perfect, but it has a back high enough to rest your head on while watching TV, a good recline for slobbing around (it'll be the main chair in my small flat), and felt as decent for working in as most of the others.

If I'd been buying a chair purely for sitting upright, and working, I would definitely have chosen the Glide which is immediately reassuring and supportive when you sit in it. However it's not a slobbing chair, with no neck support and nasty arms.

The Kashmir disappointed me, both with the high current price (£250) and the fact the display model might have been past its best... not very supportive and only really comfortable as an 'office sofa' chair.

I'd like to have got to an Ikea to try the Markus as well, but I don't drive so it's a bit of an expedition getting to one. I'll update this in a few days, if I remember, to give a more in-depth report on my Giuseppe. I know how many of these threads I've read over recent years, so it's always useful to have a bit more 'seat of the pants' info.

I have the leather version of that chair, it is amazing but really has started to show wear and tear (after 5 years) - not too bad I guess.

No different to leather in car seats and you probably spend more time in a PC chair than you do a car.

Shoulda bought the cloth one anyway. Much better ;).

Guys unless im being retarded how do we lock and unlock the back tilting? I had it yesterday where it was unlocked and it was awesome, but ive just sat on it today (dont think I did anything) and its locked again - I didnt know you could unlock it in the first place!

I see there's the knob in the middle of the chair underneath, but it doesnt seem to do anything?

The knob will adjust the resistance of the lean.

If it's like any other chair, pull the lever out that adjusts the height.
Like out, --> that way

I remember the first time I discovered that pulling out the handle on my chair made it lean back.

Cacked myself when it happened.

Found it just before I noticed a reply - THANK YOU!

I can't believe it's something so simple and I didn't realise, now I know what both items do :D

Cheers again guys!

Does this go on sale often? Went into staples the other week, sat on it and fell in love. But £250 is way too much, £100 and it's all mine....

Seems to yep, I got mine @ xmas for £120, better to wait than pay over twice the price!

I agree, it was £100 not long ago but I waited to test it and boom price was back up :/

I shall just need to wait, I need this kind of lushness in my life.

Yep :)

It's a fantastic chair - the only thing I would be wary of is that the padding seems to lose its shape fairly quick, I've had mine just under 6 months or so and I'll be taking it back up tomorrow in the hope of a replacement to get some new padding (still have the receipt :)).

If they don't replace it it's not the end of the world, and it's still fairly comfy - but of course it's not as comfy as when I first had it, which was ridiculous!

chair is not long term, mine is around a year old and the base has basically gone, not support for the bum at all. I am 11 stone in weight so not abusing it totally.

I sat in a new one in the staples store and it was so much more comfy.

On sale again now 50% off.

Is it really that good? I was thinking either this or a Markus from Ikea.

Edit: Anyone with the Kashmir could you measure the outside of the arm rest to the other outside of the arm rest, and say how wide it is in cm/mm, it says 514mm on the website but I dont know if that's taking the armrests into account or not.
