****Star Wars: Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker - Official Thread****

I stick by the claim that the majority of the whining is due to Disney not making the film "they wanted to see". People had an idea in their minds how it was all going to go and then it didn't, it felt like a personal betrayal.
I've never gone into any of the post-Lucas era with any expectations on what may or may not happen and I've left generally satisfied with what I've seen.
Ah, the Game of Thrones season 8 argument. Please stop defending **** poor writing by blaming the fans for wanting, at the very least, competent writing that doesn't make everything that came before it completely irrelevant.

What i meant is the whole events leading up to the end of episode 6 were pointless as Palpatine just ends up alive anyway. All those lives lost at the battle of endor worthless. Etc etc.

The ending of the original movies was a bit weird anyway, the celebration like the war was over when it was the leader who died who had subordinates to take his place to continue on.

Not after the loss of their planet sized weapon, good chunk of the fleet, the emperor, emperor's right hand, military base on Endor and so on. Of course, the final blow to post imperial fleet happened a year later above Jakku, but Battle of Endor was the Normandy of that universe, it changed the fate of war, the direction of the attack.

So far only First Order can keep losing planet sized weapons, fleets and all soldiers and still maintain upper hand, keep pulling resources out of thin air and beat rebels into single numbers.

In ROTJ most of the fleet was just sitting watching the final battle blocking the rebels, it was never shown if they were destroyed or what happened to them. I'm guessing they didn't get caught up in the explosion as no other ships did that were much closer.

Would have made for a good film. Would have made sense too. Nevermind, let's just skip out those key moments and throw in some completely random ideas.

There were some more candid bits of feedback. Although many of those were spoilered so not suitable as reviews. I won't be reading Empire Magazines review they seem well and truly in the Disney/Lucasfilm/Marvel pocket.

We do see Ackbar's fleet wreck Death Squadron during Lando's missile run though. They destroy command tower of Tarlandia, several tie-fighter squadrons, another Destroyer, then The Executor, in RoTJ we then focus on Luke/Vader and Millennium Falcon, but with coms and high command gone in imperial fleet the rest of the battle continued on and the progress/story is included in several books.

Doesn’t Zahn say Palpatine was controlling his fleet with the force and it lost cohesion when he “died”

Much better than a lot of what's come before

Wouldn't be surprising really...

The only issue is, there's still little to no wont in wanting to see this on this end here (personally).

Much like with so many things lately where companies and people refuse to listen, this could easily have been avoided if the fallout was handled well instead of being ignored and then even trolled over afterwards (Why can't there be more people who handle things like Zack Snyder? You can crap all over him like on Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, but he'll handle and respond to it well). This would have garnered enough good will to give it a fair chance (Mass Effect Andromeda I gave a chance because I missed playing a Biotic, and all the DLC they eventually dropped that helped them out, but that only just about covered it and there was enough time since ME3 terrible ending).

Anyway, I'm drifting now, back to topic. I'm sad, as it's basically too little too late. And there was so much promise initially, only for it (and a WHOLE LOT MORE) to be thrown away for the sake of being "subversive" in the last film, and it was enough to send Star Wars where it is now.

Anyway, again, hope those who go enjoy it, but for me. It'll have to be a few years down the line on Freeview (if that).
