..............and the special editions were fixed the Adywan's "de-specialised" versions :D

Seriously, Adywans stuff is the best version in my eye's. There is a more authentic "original" version out there which even Adywan recommend over his but the quality is 1980's output through a 720p conversion, rather than Adywans which were taken from the 1080p Blu-Rays and de-specialised.

Apologies the grief of watching this piece of **** is still fresh

first can i say a **** you to JJ Abrams. You are dead to me.

1. Have Solo's ****in emo whimpering son kill him are you ****in kidding me?
2. An iconic character is dead and not one mother****er mourns him...where is his funeral where? **** you Abrams.

3. Rey is apparently a trained jedi just by thinking it...mind tricks and lightsaber combat skillz FTW. **** you again Abrams.

4. Worst cameo in a film of all time award Mark Hamill apparently playing Luke Skywalker. Where is the grand entrance? The "just in the nick of time" appearance. The thing that makes you go " wooooo hoooo the jedi master is back. Nothing like that in this **** stain of a film. Kylo Ren (a trained jedi) when he has both Fin and Rey beaten and reached out his hand for LUKE's lightsaber then WHAMMMOOO suddenly the lightsaber rushes past his hand to the last jedi in the universe skywalker..thats what should have happened... hahaha not a ****ing chance in hell...... it goes to a teen girl who doesn't know what the force is but its ok she can just think really hard and suddenly shes an expert at one with the force and all that jazz. **** you again Abrams for ****ing all over this.

5. There is no nuance or subtlety to this film. The bit where Threepio mentions that R2D2 (iconic star wars character) has been silent in low power mode for a long ass time ever since Luke left. THAT was a massive ****ing clue for the scriptwriters to do something with that piece of information....something like when Rey and Fin are getting their asses handed to them (because hey they aint trained jedi right?????) You could switch to a scene which shows R2D2 suddenly blue lights on and chirping up....ohhhh whats happening! And then you switch back to the scene where EMO Ren is reaching for LUKE's lightsabre *CLUE!!** and the lightsabre is force pulled to the hand of Luke skywalker. Now that would have been an entrance not some piece of **** cameo with him just pushing his hood back lol. 5 seconds thats how long the greatest jedi in the universe was in this film. Words are not enough to express my disgust of this film.

I had a little hope because the star trek reboot was ok but this travesty should be made ILLEGAL to watch. **** poor script that copies everything from a New Hope but does it allllllll worse.

And holy **** did anyone else feel like at the very start...WTF did i just miss the main part of the story here guys. Republic in the **** and the good guys are the resistance again and we got another sith lord and apprentice...wtf just WTF :eek::( Abrams **** you again....

p.s. Solo :(

LOL - only just read this.
Please cry - your tears make me oh so happy.
How anyone can get upset over anything like this is beyond me.
"They didn't make the film I WANTED" so I'll cry, stamp my feet and tell the internet why my version would have been better.
Sorry, but so sad....

Surfer, it's Star Wars - it will have an awful script, occasionally bizarre casting and drip with stupidity for the masses to lap up like some kind of chocolate-covered bantha fodder. That's what Star Wars always has been. I have no idea why it has been so immeasurably idolised by adults. The first three were great kids' films, yes. Kids' films.

Best post of the thread and bang on.

It's really sad that adults get so emotionally stressed over a kids/family film.

Kids films where arms get chopped off and the main narrative reveal is that the most violent on screen villain is Father to two of the main (good guy) protagonists.

ANH and ESB are not typical "kids" films IMHO, though they work on that level also.

ROTJ unfortunately goes down the route of cuddly "kid friendly" ewoks fighting the empire and light sabres that appear to knock people over more than decapitate.

As for TFA, as has been said by the less hysterical voices on this thread (several times), it isn't bad, it just isn't as good as the ANH ESB. ROTJ has some pretty weak parts too, if wasn't for the interest in wrapping up the threads ESB leaves hanging it would have been a wash, as it stands TFA and ROTJ are about even IMHO. Not awful but no classic.

OK, this is my mate's Star Wars Collection

There is stuff coming all the time.

That's an awesome collection, and would see him right for an early retirement if he ever thought about selling it all.

I read that George Lucas originally made ANH as a kids film but the fact that people go to these lengths to collect this memorabilia says to me it didn't all go to plan and struck a chord with all ages (all the better for for him). I dont think the same will ever happen for .. say Finding Nemo.

I watched the films when they came out as a young boy and I enjoyed them but it wasn't until watching them over and over again later in life when they came out on VHS that I full understood what was going on exactly, mainly the minimal politics, family stuff and the Han/Leia chemistry. As that kid I enjoyed it for different reasons.

ESB was the worst film to me when I was young but my older brother said ESB it was the best, at the time I preferred ANH, ROtJ then ESB.
Now I am older I agree with my brother ESB is the best, but ANH is a close second, ROTJ did start the turn of them into 'kids' films IMO and to me that is why it is still ranked lower than the others in the original trilogy.

I remember when TFM came out, I got an pre-release copy of it and got a load of mates around to watch it, we must have been in our early twenties.
After it had finished most said it was cool, fun but they couldn't understand what the heck was going on with the politics etc.

So again to me that says George Lucas wasn't aiming them just at kids anymore...

P.S jar jar thrown in to balance. :D

I'm sure Lucas had merchandising strongly in mind even before the first ANH rushes came in. He certainly did some things fantastically with the first films, but he was no genius - far, far from it - he was just very lucky indeed. I do think part of the SW franchise's popularity amongst adults today is nostalgia-based; that and it's the 'safest' part of geekdom.

The 4th picture from the bottom is him and a book he's just wrote which has been taken up by a Publisher. He has spent his life's savings on Star Wars (and other) memorabilia and I asked him on Thursday what he thought of the latest Star Wars and Star Wars film critics in general and I can't post it here.
I showed him some of the posts in this thread and he has no time for people who take it too seriously.

I just watched this for a second time. I really didn't like it the first time. But I was in the cinema and watching with friends. This time I was at home and watching with my son. I liked it a lot more this time but that was probably because my son loved it and we enjoyed it together. Still loads of massive plot holes and wooden acting though.

He spent his life savings on plastic and he gets bent out of shape with people taking it too seriously? Righto.
