Subnautica

Good to see others using a controller :D Question for those who are - I use a very old (launch day) X360 Wireless Controller which works flawlessly in any other games I play.

In Subnautica I have a random problem where it randomly leans to the left. It makes inventory management and selecting things in the PDA a total nightmare. Wiggling the left stick a tad resolves this for a while. I recently borrowed a mates spare controller (360 wireless) and I have the same issue. This only happens in Subnautica though, mostly when I'm in the ingame inventory.

It's been like this ever since I began playing during early access. Not sure what to make of it.

I can't say I've ever experienced that issue, Kainz. It's a bit odd that it only happens in Subnautica though. I'm using a launch-day Xbox 360 wireless controller as well, but sometimes I'll use a launch day wired when I'm out of batteries, but I've never come across that problem. Perhaps it's an issue with the receiver? Can you try it in a different USB port? At the very least, moving it into another port on the PC will force the PC to re-detect the receiver and apply new driver settings. If it's happening with another controller, then it's either got to be the PC or the receiver, so that's worth a try :)

Can't believe I've missed this game - It looks awesome.

Is the Steam 10% off, the best deal out there at the moment? Wish I picked it up sooner :( :p

Absolutely no idea what I'm doing in it. Spent most the weekend just aimlessly swimming around and dieing. I did manage to make a new pair of fins though! I think I need to watch some YouTube vids to point me in the right direction.

I agree about looking at the receiver thanks. I haven't really taken that out of the port it is sitting in for donkeys years. I'll deffo give that a shot this later today though. Shifting a ton of resources from the Cyclops to my main base is tiring enough, and inventory management with this issue that I have makes the job even longer to do. If only there was a way to shift large amounts of loot rapidly!

Yeah Steam has the best price now that it has been released. I picked it up for £7.49 and I almost feel bad at how much of a deal that is for such an amazing game!

Follow the story hints that you get in the game. Get yourself a repair tool, repair the lifepod and you'll start getting messages on the radio pointing you to other lifepods. You'll find all sorts when you go and explore these. Also, refer to your PDA for materials. Incidentally, how were you dying? Were you drowning, or running out of food?

They're talking base teleporters in the future! That would be epic!

I'm truly hoping for deeper environments/biomes in future, which newer vehicles/subs will be able to access. The great thing about Subnautica is that they have a great platform to build upon now - provided they stick to listening to the players for feedback. The arctic biome sounds great, I can't wait to take my Cyclops (named RMS Titanic II) there...

Doh! :p

A lot of great discussion for this game though - Think I might take the plunge... Heh :p

I'm glad that this thread has taken off and has attracted some new players. The developers really do deserve success with the game. And I've enjoyed every moment of playing it so far.

Last night I finally managed to find all the fragments needed to build the Cyclops! I took the PRAWN suit out for a bit of a jaunt, and ended up finding an area that I didn't even get to explore during early access. It was a fairly flat area that was right next to a huge wreck from the Aurora. I was quite deep, and above me (fairly high up, luckily!) a Reaper Leviathan could be seen swimming around, freaking me out loads with all the noise it makes! I was quite a way under it and luckily it didn't deviate from its patrol, so it gave me some time to investigate the wreck. That's where I found the engine fragments for the Cyclops. I had most of the materials required to build it, but ended up having to go between my two bases (one in the Safe Shallows and the other in the Mushroom Forest) before I had everything. I then went to build it but even though I thought I was in really deep water, it wasn't deep enough, so I relocated the Mobile Vehicle Bay to where I thought was deep enough, only to discover that it wasn't. I ended up quitting the game because it was late, so I'll be building it this evening!

Okay I went for it in the end! Mere minutes after the sale ended... :p Didn't realise it was ending tonight :D

What colour grading does everyone use? Or do you just use none?

Well I set out to do something stupid and everything went according to plan.

1. From the Lost River there's a long lava corridor that leads to the Lava Castle. At the end of this corridor I planned to make a small base running off thermal power. The castle itself is about 800metres away with the Sea Dragon Lev patrolling. Parked my leech covered Cyclops and built me a base with lockers, a fabricator and a health pack station. Nice!

2. The main plan was to use the Prawn and dart into the castle, float/crash my way through its tunnels to the Thermal Power Plant structure within. I managed to reach the castle untouched (prawn still has stock thrusters) by the big bad and got into the facility without issue as the entrance is a pain to find. I had one purple tablet though (you need more than this...) so I only opened the room that gave me access to ION tech! That's right - Ion batteries/cells are planned for tomorrow! Infinite power is all MINE! (followed by a 2hr recharge time).

The ion batteries each use those ion cubes in their recipe though and I need to first make sure those cubes aren't a key endgame item for that rocket...

I'll need to make a few more trips to the castle area to unlock the remaining rooms tomorrow.

After all this I'll hold out finishing the game in order to explore more. I'd like to set up key bases in hotspots of interest.

Doesn't seem very well optimized, try building a fully featured base with spotlights and floodlights and your framerate takes a noise dive.

I've removed a few lights and it's settled to around 35fps around my largest base, before it was 20fps.

Pretty awful for a GTX1080,
