Summer Transfer Thread 2019

There's a very good chance that De Ligt will go on to become an absolutely top class CB but the hype around him has made him as expensive as if he were already absolutely top class. Take Liverpool as an example, how can we justify paying out £70m odd + agents fees and a £250k+ per week contract on somebody that's not guaranteed to play every week? Imagine the cost of renewing VVD's contract if we were paying De Ligt £250k per week?

Unless there's a massive change on his (Raiola's) part regarding his demands then I can only see him joining Utd or Barca. Both sides need a long term answer at CB and neither side have the wage structure issues most other clubs have - Sanchez's signing already ****ed Utd over in terms of negotiating renewals and Barca's top tier earnings are making well in excess of £250k per week.
VDS is at Ajax...
We see things like this said all the time regarding transfers but does anybody honestly believe that a player will join a side just because their manager/director used to play for that club? What could VDS possibly tell De Ligt that would persuade him to join Utd over Barca?

You'd have to have lived in a bunker for 2 years to not be aware of the situation at Utd (or Barca or any major side in Europe) and prospects you're facing joining them.

I don't think we'll get him ahead of Barca, but the club is still a colossus and we have a history of paying stupidly high wages... so there's a small chance maybe. I think he'll be a top level CB, so would suit as a defender to build around.

Oh, and I really hope the links to Bruno Fernandes are true, he looks a great player and we don't have any fast playmakers. There seems to be something in it...

I can't say I've watched much Fernandes, I know he's posted some impressive numbers this season. He impressed me against Holland though, looked like he could fill Herrera's role effectively.

Weirdly the most reliable source I've seen linking us with him is a Tier 1 Milan source. He has said several times that the deal is done. He does have connections to Milan, obviously through his time in Italy but also his father is a Milan scout or something like that.

I think the only top players who'd consider United at the moment are mercenaries more motivated by money than football. They may be a huge club, but football wise they are a mess.

Being a Liverpool fan I hope it stays this way :p

I think United are doing the right thing in targeting promising young players who see it as an opportunity to further their career and help return United to winning ways. Realistically we're going to find it hard to compete with the likes of Barca and City in the transfer market, so we have to go after slightly different targets. I'd love us to get de Ligt, but I just don't think it's likely and there's no point wasting valuable time in the transfer market when we could be targeting someone else. It's happened a few times since Fergie left and it resulted in a mad rush trying to find a decent alternative.

I think James and (if we get him) Wan-Bissaka would be an excellent start to the window.

Everyone needs to step the **** off regarding Obi-Wan Bissaka :p

I still hope/believe that he will be with us next season - It's too soon for him to fly the nest

Maguire is probably the least exciting signing I can imagine. I doubt he'll be bad, he's probably a slight upgrade for us. But he's underwhelming for what will probably be a pretty expensive signing.

He's actually pretty good on the ball, not sure why he's getting grief in here he's solid... is it because of the fee?

He'd easily be United's number one centre half, let's look at the competition;

Jones - made of glass and not good
Rojo - lol
Lindelof - actually improved quite a bit last season, will be interesting what he does this season as his first was beyond dire
Bailly - far too rash, not good enough
Smalling - past his best at 29

He will undoubtedly be an improvement but £70 million is a hell of a lot.

It's the fee that's the problem like you say better than Jones and smalling to be fair problem is who else is there and at what price

He'd certainly be United's best centre back, but that's not saying much ;)

And 70m is just lol. That's van dijk money.
