The only reason Robertson didn't stand out in Scotland was due to the fact the team he was playing for was abysmal :p

He wasn't being given the opportunity to get forward and make assists like he does now.

Yet the scout who picked him up was there to see Armstrong.

Armstrong who went onto be bought by celtic and then by Southampton.

Southampton has bought around 10 players now from us in as many seasons.

Like I said before Robertson looked nothing special up here but some of his team mates did.

You have to remember when Robertson was up here so was van dijk. You could see van dijk was levels ahead of everyone and was picked up by Southampton.

Robertson wasn't on anyone's radar and was just by chance a scout was at Dundee looking at Armstrong and he played well and impressed that day. He got very lucky.

Tierney on the other hand is the same position as van dijk. Head and shoulders above the pack. He's worth therefore a lot more money.

Its funny how this pub league has made so many premiership footballers. Yet supposedly not good enough for the premiership.

Like I said before give us £100 million a season and we would wipe the floor of half the premiership teams this season. Over time be top 6 and contending for more.

Being head and shoulders above the pack in the SPL is like being the tallest of the 7 dwarfs though. As good as you say Tierney is, he's not nearly as good as Robertson and that's backed up by the fact that it's Robertson that's getting picked and been named captain of the national side. Not being as good as the best LB in Europe isn't the end of the world though.

And you keep coming back to this thing about a few players playing in the SPL before moving to the PL. It's a mad argument that could be made about pretty much any league in Europe. It's also mad to suggest Van Dijk was 'made' in the SPL too. He played 2 years at Celtic. There's a food chain in football - Celtic were prepared to gamble on VVD when he was playing in the Netherlands, he proved himself in Scotland and Southampton were then prepared to take a gamble on him and once he proved himself in England then Liverpool went for him. For every VVD that makes it all the way along that chain there's a few that get stuck in the SPL and a few that get stuck at Southampton. For a lot of the biggest clubs and certainly the case with Liverpool in the last few years, they're happy to let your Celtics and Southamptons of this world take the risks for them and pay a premium to sign proven players rather than just potential, at least if they're paying any meaningful amount anyway.

Exactly my point, money is more important than competing to these mercenaries.... you know, he doesn't have to have super big wages.... why do footballers at that level of salary need to maintain it. They're vermin.

So your options are

A: Take a huge pay cut and move to a smaller club
or
B: Get a huge pay rise and move to a smaller club

The guy has won the biggest competition in football multiple times, what else could he want? It would be different if he was taking a paycut to try and achieve something he hasn't done before.

You're being incredibly naive.

Because they're one bad tackle away from not being able to play again and have to earn enough by 35 to maintain themselves for what could be another 65 years? A players earning potential is at it's highest from around 25-30 years old as that's when they're in their prime. If he can get these wages in China for a season he could set himself and his family up for the rest of his life. Not every player becomes a Beckham or a Pundit on Sky getting a million a year.
